Now that i have a common ring i cant tell the difference between my fone ringing and sum1 elses.

i cant compose drums either!!!

i know this is a worldly thing, but im kinda used 2 ma fone now.

Sorry I don't think so.  Apart from being haram according to the majority of muslim scholars, past and present, it is a damn nuisance when it goes off in salah.  People who don't switch off their mobiles in mosques should be shot !

People who don't turn off their phones in SYNAGOGUE are doing us a favour.

     ...They're disturbing the kuffar.

himy hmm..not sure that true..allah (swt) says all prayers reach me

anybody seen Dom Joly with his GIANT mobile on trigger happy

something that gets me mad more than mobiles...

sitting in the reference library and having to listen to
the local bum wigglers talking about which boys/girls they like
don't like...it's like why don't you go home and tell your daddies
when your wearing your hijaab to impress him and see how happy he is!
interesting..

hmm..a mobile phone ring is haram? since when? that's a bit, wacky, no? ??? what about a house phone? or if u hear something on tv that sounds like music..what then? i'm not tryin to punga (argue) but i think this is soo silly :) but i'm not a knowledged person, so u know, i could be totally wrong :)

don't most "scholars" have mobiles themselves? :) i think this is trivial..and we should spend our time more wisely discussing things of greater importance then the ringing of the mobiles :) like i said before, i'm not a knowledged person, so i could be totally wrong :) later langur ;-D

yeah good question princess??? what exactly is supposed to be "haram" here. remember if you say haram you are condemning all the people who have cellphones/cell rings to sin and punishment in the hellfire??? !!!

I think we can all understand the difference between a ringing sound used to alert somebody and a musical tune.
Its not the owning of a phone that is questionable its choosing a musical tune that is.
Also, your note re: tv is also true.  If there is some musical tune on the telly then it is better to turn the volume down
Just to reiterate, that anyone who has studied Islamic law will know that there are only a few scholars in our history who permitted music.
Allah knows best

ps. Jannah, when we say something entails sin that does not necessarily mean punishment.  (they are under Allah's will)

The rule is whether the music has sexual connotations or not
that is the limit that they all agree on

but i agree this is a silly argument
