| [slm] I read this today: Ja'far bin Abi Talib al-Hashimi [i]radi'allahu 'anhu[/i] Ja'far was a brother of Ali. He was ten years older than ali. Ja'far was one of the early Muslims. He became the leader of the emigrants in Abyssinia. He returned to the Prophet after the victory of Khaybar in 7 H, and the Prophet said: "I know not whether to rejoice more about the victory of khaybar or the return of Ja'far." Ja'far [i]radi'allahu 'anhu[/i] was sent to the battle of Mu'tah in 8 H. Like Zayd, he was also killed in this battle. He had lost both his arms in the fight. The Prophet is reported to have said that in paradise Ja'far would be given two wings instead. His companions, therefore, gave him a title at-Tayyar (the Flyer) after his death. |

| This is a forward: ================================================================ Asalamu alaikum wa rahmatu'llahi wa barakatahu :) I just heard a really inspiring story in a lecture. At a point during the battle of Uhud, there was a false announcement that the Prophet -sala Allahu alayhi wa sallam- had been killed. Some of the sahaba became confused, not knowing how to react to such an event. They put down their weapons in the middle of the battle field, and sat down in it. One of the sahaba who had arrived late, asked them, "What are you waiting for? What are you doing?" They said, "Rasulu'llah has passed away." He said, "Stand up and die for what Rasulu'llahi -sala Allahu alayhi wa sallam- died for!" He told Sa'ad, "O Sa'ad, I can smell Paradise in the battle field near this mountain of Uhud." And he went into the battlefield, waging jihad for the sake of Allah. After the battle, his sister found him among the martyred, with more than 80 wounds; she only recognised his fingers--may Allah have mercy on him. Upon this occasion, the following iyah was revealed, 3:144 Muhammad is no more than an apostle: many Were the apostle that passed away before him. If he died or were slain, will ye then Turn back on your heels? If any did turn back on his heels, not the least harm will he do to Allah. but Allah (on the other hand) will swiftly reward those who (serve Him) with gratitude. ---Now the ummah has seen the real passing away of the Prophet-sala Allahu alayhi wa sallam. We have seen the completion of the religion. There are those blessed with serving Allah through their death, and may Allah make us among them. But, until then, I think we can take a lesson from the above story, if we change the brother's statement a little in order to address ourselves in our own current battle field: Stand up and live for what the Messenger of Allah -sala Allahu alayhi wa sallam- lived for! ["Say: verily my salat, and my sacrifice, and my living, and my dieing are for Allah, Lord of the Worlds."] May Allah guide us and strengthen us along with those with whom He is pleased. | slm I love these stories!! (sorry if I'm breaking the constitution by writing this post!!) As previously mentioned I am reading "Muhammad" by Martin Lings at the moment, and these stories among others are contained in it. Such inspiration!! The hardships that those people went through! Unbelievable! And we think we're badly off if we get a bit of verbal abuse or dirty looks in the street... wasalaam eleanor |
