Was it worth it?

assalaamu alaikum

I was just given the link to a page showing pictures of the dead baby Iman, who we all know the Israelis killed.

I wonder whether it is respectful to the baby, to show pictures of her wounds, since even these pictures have had hardly any noticeable effect on Muslims. Why desensitise Muslims even more?

I agree with you Kashif.

In one of the talks I attended, Hamza Yusuf also expressed his disaproval of pictures and videotapes that circulate amongst Muslims showing the mutilated bodies of of those who have died in Allah's cause (May Allah grant them Jannatul Firdaws). He emphasised the honouring of the body of the deceased and stated that we Muslims should not demean ourselves by conditioning ourselves into becoming emotional only when we see the plight of the Muslim ummah, rather we should always be in a state of trying to do our utmost to help the ummah in whatever way she needs that help.

Though pictures and videotapes have obvious benefits, other than Hamza Yusuf, I know of numerous other Scholars who also disprove of exhibiting the bodies of the Shuhada (martyrs).

I disagree

remember the story of the scholar who when he heard what had happened to the muslims of al-quds just before salah-uddin's time went into the mosque during ramadan and started eating all the food before fast opening time?

Masha'llah, this is exactly what was in my mind.

Chachi, i think you misunderstood what i was saying. But, alhumdulillah, Learner's comments make things a little clearer, insha'llah.
