| [slm] ok so i have a question about sheesha, or argeela, or hookah, whatever you would like to call it. and i posted it here, since i figured maybe the guys might know a little bit more about this topic than i do. i know it's something that is done in the middle east and in pakistan/india and that part of the world. so, is it ok for people to smoke it, health-wise, and Islamically? [wlm] |

| as'salaamualikum :) i'd just like to say, for all the houstonians..there's a place off of westhimer called "star cafe" that's got madd supply for this stuff :) ppl be smoking it up in there :) there's mainly arabs that go there :) don't ask how i know ;) heheh :) later langur ;-D |

| [slm] Please forgive me if the brothers took offense for having this post specifically posted here, my intentions weren't malicious. I just have heard more guys talk about it than girls. I have read that it was usually men who would do it in our parent's generation, but I'm sure these days it's spread equally across both sexes. hope i didn't cause a ruckus, just wanted some more info on what it was. | [slm] Sheesha? Not a good thing to get hooked on. Last semester I was taking a class with this fellow who loved the sheesha, one day he came in complaining of lung problems. With that in mind, perhaps we should all keep away from actually smoking the sheesha. What you can do though, is just fill the stuff up with water and use no tobacco or anything, so basically you'll be smoking water hehehe. Those of you out there who are curious about it ... Quell that curiousity with something else Preferably something that is not addictive :) Have a bebzi or two ;) |

| sheesha's just as bad as a coke... nothing in excess... but its a nice relaxer... and the smoking hit is significantly less than a cigarette... and ive gotten opinions both ways... choice... |

| [slm] Jannah, "sheesha" (or huqqah) is not a drug like weed or an intoxicant. It's got nicotine. It's like cigarettes. I still don't know exactly what the ruling is about it though. I've heard from people that the harm from it is less than cigarettes though. |

"...It is concluded that sheesha smoking as well as cigarette smoking, will produce similar harmful effects on the function of ventilatory capacity of both male and female subjects and increase the risk of developing obstructive airway disease, with sheesha smokers being at a greater risk." Author Zahran F; Yousef AA; Baig MH Title A study of carboxyhaemoglobin levels of cigarette and sheesha smokers in Saudi Arabia. So it seems that smoking sheesha, at least on a regular basis is on par or perhaps even worse than smoking cigarettes. even though there is supposedly less tobacco in sheesha, there's more carbon monoxide which is bad bad bad. Sheesh(a) kabobs and Smoked Salmon? :) I don't know about the rest of the US but out in California its illegal for someone to smoke indoors in any public establishment. Which is good, cause I always end up coughing or having a runny nose if someone is smoking. |
