Wa'alaikumussalam warahmatullah :-)

Erm... OK, some of these may not be what you're looking for.. but just brainstorming...

How about a book called
Letter to a Muslim Student
by Hassan Al Banna

I find it very inspiring and motivating... since the sister is going to college after high school, inshaAllah?

If she will be moving out to college... then, something for her room... like a beautifully framed words of wisdom?

How about audio tapes? Some cool talk about growing up, changing... etc etc etc? Nasyid tapes?

Or video tapes?

A recipe book?
If U wanna books, I personally like these for nice gifts... but it really depends on what sort of person she is...
In the Early Hours - Khurram Murad (Abt spiritual purity and how to attain it)

Being a European Muslim - Tariq Ramadhan
=> Widen horizons with regards to living in the West, and being Muslim

In the shade of the Qur'an Juz 1 - Syed Qutb

A book of selected prayers - Jamal Badawi
I like this one, coz, all of the du'as that I need is there... thin and portable :) just bear with the Arabic typos :)

I think some bookshops sell small 'lil pocket sized books that contain things like "Pearls of the Prophet - cool selected hadiths"
or a collection of verses to motivate, be patient and strong etc etc...

I don't know whether they sell it at the US (I really doubt it, though), but we have like bookmarks, posters and badges, with cool hadiths/ verses written on it, and they're nicely laminated with nice graphics.

Err.. how about perfume?

U know what? Perhaps U can group some of the items together, put it in a box of pot pourri... I'd like that :) (I'm talking as if the gift is for me! *L*)

im not 2 keen on perfume, its not right islamically.

i find it really hard 2 get gifts, but 4 gurls i get jewellery usually but hijab is a good thing cuz its hard 2 get hold of nice 1's and u can neva have 2 many of.

It depends who its 4, u cud get gagets (esp from da gaget shop), chocalatas, or even pay 4 a few driving lessons.  If ur lookin 4 sumthing more religious, well nasheeds, islamic videos and frames or sumthing may b good.  man i cant think of more.

wa alaykum as salaam wa rahmatAllahi wa barakatuh,

Kathy is the graduate a bro or a sis?  How much are you thinking of spending?

I *love* lotion from the Body Shop/Victoria's Secret.. it's an easy gift, most girls like that kinda stuff and I think you can get a gift set in a tote bag for like $15-$30..

For my graduation party one of my friends got me a pen with my name engraved on it in gold... that's a pretty awesome gift I have to say :)

If you know the sisters style then I'd suggest jewelry.. rings are somewhat difficult because you need to know her size, but bracelets, watches or necklaces are good.. you can get a silver chain with a lil graduate pendant on it for like $30 at macy's..

Books.. the Memory of Hands by Reshma Baig is awesome.. and it's pretty 'light', it's not a scary fiqh or tafseer book :)  It might be a good book to get someone interested in reading more about islam.

if it's a brother.. hmm..uhh..

I don't know, maybe a nice watch?

my bro got a palm vii for his graduation!!!! so maybe some of those techie toys that guys like?

Hope that's helped :)

wasalaamu alaykum.

ps - lindt chocolate is always good ;)

Have you guys seen those really neat posters that has a big mosaic picture on it, but then it's made up of a whole bunch of tiny little pictures?? Well they have Islamic ones too that are real cool, one of my friends has that up in his room at school. And they're really pretty to look at but not too "threatening" to other roomates, so it might open up some nice discussion :)

I"m not really sure where you would find those though....

Hmm, you should be able to get this from most Islamic bookstores. Check the following online store:
http://store.yahoo.com/islamicbookstore-com/b5930.html

This is in the US though. Hmm, Amazon may have it also.

wasalaam.
