Assalaamu alaikum,

I like the special group to be at the end of the list. The Madrasatul Ilm would then be the first forum. As for the name, Himy suggested a few, should be along the lines of a media (TV, radio, newspaper, etc) company name. Something like the madina broadcasting company, with an arabic touch to it?

hmm well i thought it would be better at the top because it is the most recent topics/current things going on. like in ramadan it would be the first forum...etc  but i think we're really used to having it at the bottom...

I like K-Islam 78.6 Radio (although there is no 78.6 frequency on the radio dial!).

        AsalamAlay.com,
Peace and Un-Named Forum Greetings to Y'all,

I went to sleep last night after watching Voyager reach Earth
But instead dreamt of this forum and how to 'format' it.

I log on some moments ago and, yep, I see it's a...mess

already. The mess is the Names of EACH NEW thread posted
        by users.

        I can't find anything.

WEll, okay, I can't find anything easily or quickly.

I could throw in the word LAZY. That I'm too lazy to
click and hunt and search through the inevitable number of
threads to see where I should hang on the weekends. etc etc.

        HiMY Solution # 23:

EACH and EVERY NEW thread in THIS forum MUST begin with

The NAME of the City/Locality where the event

        is to take place.

Thereafter, NEW EVERY event is added as a REPLY within
        that City's Event Thread.

        Doing this:

Organizes Events on a CITY and/or Locality basis.

Consolidates Parallel threads describing different Events in THE SAME CITY. Perhaps on the same day.

This consolidation Prevents the FREQUENTLY ASKED THREAD phenomenon.

By Placing ALL, say TORONTO EVENTS, into a single TORONTO thread in this forum, it easily allows comparison between different TORONTO events on the same day, the following discussions between Madina Members as to which function to attend/skip etc.

Doing this, Makes it easy for Madina Citizens and Guests to scan the level of muslim community activism/activity within each locality.

It may become a poor man's timeline/calendar so to speak, for the history of the Muslims in that city.

When there are CHANGES and/or CANCELLATIONS to a SPECIFIC event, NOT doing my consolidation idea would mean that THREAD is now defunct. Whereas with The CITY THREAD LABELING, a cancellation or time/date change in one event means people reading that post in the SAME THREAD still have other choices for events to attend in that city.

It is, a single point of Announcement, instead of multiple points of announcements in multiple threads.

I think the CITY is as specific as it should go. Where there are few muslims, say, The US State of WYOMING, the LABEL for that thread should be by STATE name or Groups of STATE NAMES to make up a single thread, for instance: WYO,COL,IDH,MONT as a LABEL could stand for Wyoming, Colorado, Idaho, Montana.

Country Names for others.

Biggie EVENTS, like HAJJ or UMRA or the ANNUAL 4-5 day ISNA Convention held each Labour Day weekend with 35,000 people, might have its own thread either HERE or in the Neighbouring SEASONAL Forum.
I got more points, but y'all get the idea, eh?

         What think?

Himy I think having a separate thread for every locality would be nice organizationally wise but then you wouldn't be able to scan events going on all over.. and there are some events that are national like ISNA even tho it's located in Chicago?

Local events of say 20 - 200 muslims attending most likely
     fall into a LOCAL mandate.

NATIONAL events such as ISNA's Annual Convention where 30,000+
Muslims attend, most certainly should NOT be hidden
within my local city label suggestion.

NATIONAL events are different than the MUCH smaller local
     events.

For instance, I would most certainly be interested in things
ISNA nationally... but I probably could skip info about
Imam Hamza Yousuf's weekend seminar in the Bay Area cuz, well,
I'm in Southern ONtario and not Northern California...at least this week!

Think of it like your local ALBANY Television.
You get Local news, Weather, traffic.
Then on the same channel at 6:30 pm, y'get NBC, CBS ABC
     NETWORK news reports.

     What think?

SAlaamAlaikum
I think it's nice if we read about events going on in other cities even if we can't go... for example, I'd like everyone to know about Taking it to the Streets, because maybe they can do something like that in their area.  And if it was just under a thread called Chicago, people may not even click on it and see it. But since it's under a thread called Taking it to the STreets- an interesting name, more people would see it.  I think just putting the city's name at the beginning of the thread's name, the way it is now, is good enough.

wlm,

ok how about a compromise.. a uniform way of naming the threads like this:

CITY : Event Title  Date

that should help us organize all the stuff and people can immediately see where stuff is happenning and if the title is interesting they might even read it to get some ideas...

and ppl we still need a name!!! this thing is giving me nightmares :(
