Interest [Who do I give interest to?]

Asalaamu alaykum,
No, I do not put my money in bank saving account, but I am living in non-muslim
country so I just put them there to protect from stealing. Anyway in the end of
the year I receive some amount interest because they stay there all the year.
Can you help me find out if it is permissible to give those money from interest
for use to my non-muslim mother and grandmothers(which are in need) and if not
to whom I have to give it? Jazak Allah!

Anonymous you can put your money in a regular checking account that does not take interest. Ask your bank. There is no need to take interest in this case. Interest is clearly haram and there is no reason to take it if there is also a clear alternative.

Salaam Jannah, my account as I said is not saving and is the type you
mentioned but even in the end of every year they do give some small interest.
So, please be kind to help me find out the answer to my question. And yes I DO
know that interest is HARAM and that is why I have not put my money to take
interest altought they want to give me too high interest. Jazak allah!

assalaamu alaikum

When i opened up my normal (non-savings account) at my bank i asked them not to put any interest into my account at all, and they were happy to oblige.

Admittedly there are some who won't be too happy about your decision, but just threaten to take your money elsewhere and i'm sure they'll start to listen.

As regards what to do with the interest money, i posted the answer to this question a few years ago.

Jamal Zarabozo pointed out that:
* regardless of where you give it, whether to charity, to a poor person or whatever, you should expect NO reward from Allah for that at all.

* When you do give it away, say for example, to a masjid, let them know that its money from interest so that can use it to buy things like toilet paper, etc.

* You shouldn't really buy food for people with it: since buying sustenance for someone with haram money is disagreeable. (based on a fatwa by Sh. Ibn Baz).

However, Sh. Munajjid has the opinion:

Question #2370:

Can we give the interest from banks to the needy one?

Answer:

Praise be to Allaah.

If there is a person who deals in riba (interest/usury), then repents and wants to get rid of the money he gained from riba, it is permissible for him to give it to the poor in order to get rid of it. A person can also do likewise if an amount of riba is put into his account by the bank, but this is not counted as sadaqah (charity), because Allaah is Good and only accepts that which is good and pure. As for continuing to deal in riba, this is not permissible, because it is one of the major sins (kabaa’ir), and taking it is tantamount to challenging Allaah and His Messenger, even if one is dealing in riba in order to give it to the poor.

I would suggest that you send it to some third world country at random
with a random name and address and inshallah allah (swt) returns the blood money to them

who were forced to pay it

Asalaamu alaykum, and thanks a lot for your responses to my question.
Now I understand from your replies that I can not give it to my mother or
grandmother, right?(or is it possible?) So i have got another question. Some time
ago I lent money to a person and those amount is almoust the same the bank put in
my account as interest. Can i tell the person that owe me the money that he has
not to back it to me but he is responsible to give it to some islamic madrasa
or organization because they are from interest and I want to get rid from them?
Am I clean after doing that? Please, reply. Zazak Allah!
