Assalam-u-Alaikum, Try to increase your activity in the day so that you are pretty tired when it comes to sleeping. If you drink coffee... then stop. When you lie down to sleep focus on the blackness of your eyes rather than thoughts about today or what to do tomorrow, etc.. i think u know what i mean. If all else fails, there are some really good Gross Anatomy works that are dead sure to do you in ... lol. Wassalam-u-Alaikum, Uzer |

slm if you're under the age of about 23 don't worry about it. It's youth. Don't even bother trying to go to sleep, it won't work. I'm speaking from experience. Enjoy it while you can. Wizened old people like me just conk out in the evenings after a hard day at work. But tell me..what is it about this board? I worked a 15 hour day today, came home, had a shower and got something to eat and did salat. Normally I should be tucked up by now in snoozeland. My body is aching and my eyes are bleary....and what am I doing??? YES!!! CHECKING OUT THE NEW POSTS!!!!!!!!!!! It's so weird. I have to be up and at work again in like 8 hours and here I am checking out the Madinat!! I love you all. And good night. wasalaam eleanor |

Assalamu Alaikum, I think dhikr is an excellent idea. In addition, maybe u should try sleeping on ur right side. Get comfortable. Why not try getting a soft toy (unless you already have one or are allergic to them)? j/k ;-) Wassalam |

Try doing a whole bunch of push-ups. Your muscles and body will feel more ready to relax. Try avoiding sleeping pills like Ambien as much as possible. Wake up in the mornings early. try self-hypnosis. dhikr is a good idea (i'm not the first to mention it). drink milk. avoid sugars at night. avoid unhealthy habits of using the computer only during late hours like try and use it at daytime or afternoon. get a massage done. dim the lights. read your way to sleep. clothes your eyes and imagine counting sheep jumping over a fence :-) consult a doctor if nothing works.:-) good night nehar, Maaz |

SAlaamAlaikum yes, turning the computer and all the lights off is a good idea. And then, after you are in bed, and have made your dua'as, you can try this: just start breathing slow, like you do when you're asleep, this always works for me. If you share a room with your sister, just copy her pattern of breathing, and try not to think about anything else other than the breathing. hope this helps. Fatoosh |

A.W.W. All praise to Allah, why don't you pray Thajud, pray quran, contemplate on whether todays actions brought you closer to Allah, closer to Jannah or Jahnam. Think of the grave where everyone has to go, make dua for all muslims etc etc. You are so lucky, you have a talent that not many of us have. Please make best use of your time that is in the rememberence of Allah. And ask Allah to ease your condition, becuase it is only Allah alone who can give you sleep, this is one of the many wonders of Allah. Every living creature on this planet goes to sleep isn't that amazing...!. However Allah alone does not need sleep or rest. AL BAQARAH (2:255) Allah! There is no God save Him, the Alive, the Eternal. Neither slumber nor sleep overtaketh Him. Unto Him belongeth whatsoever is in the heavens and whatsoever is in the earth. Who is he that intercedeth with Him save by His leave ? He knoweth that which is in front of them and that which is behind them, while they encompass nothing of His knowledge save what He will. His throne includeth the heavens and the earth, and He is never weary of preserving them. He is the Sublime, the Tremendous. Salaam |

[slm] Often times when something is bothering us or troubling our subconscious, our sleep suffers. Instead of treating the symptoms we should look to the root of what is causing your sleeplessness. Are there be any problems at home or with family or friends causing some tension in your life? How long has it been going on? When did you first notice you couldn't sleep? Is there anything going on in your life that parallels the sleeplessness? like everytime you have a fight w/ your sister, you can't sleep that night, that kind of thing. hehe, you'd think someone was trying to play doctor :) I hope you are able to get some sleep. Are you able to at least get in some sleep during the day? or do you wake up early no matter what, even if you've gone to sleep late the night before? if you ever need someone to talk to, i'm a night owl, so i'm always up! :) [wlm] Ruqayyah |

alsalamu alaykum wa rhmat Allah wa barakatuh spend sometime in a natural place...for a while..subhan Allah the air just relaxes ur whole system...especially if u go walk near the water..the air is so fresh subhan Allah maing thikr helps..so does praying...i remember when i was a kid, i'd be praying with my mum and after the fard salat i would pass out on my prayer mat because i became so relaxed...it still happens sometimes to me. pls do make good use of ur time awake......i used to be able to stay awake pretty late but university changed all that:D walsalamu alaykum wa rhmat Allah wa barakatuhu |

Assalam-u-Alaikum, DO NOT TOSS AND TURN! It does no good. Don't move when sleeping. breath in a calm manner. Recite Ayat-ul Kursee before sleep. Hope this helps! |

[slm] sis ruqquayah, nothin bugs me that easy. dont beleive in stressin 2 much. i dont ever have probs with my family b/c allhadullah they r very nice n understanding. I dont think ive slept b4 2am since i was about 12yrs old (7yrs ago now). I feel real tired in the day, but am at college so i stay awake, cant sleep in daylight, it irritates me, unless im mega tired. On average i sleep 5hrs a day. So doc.ruq can u help?? lol. Sis thanx 4 the offer, nice 2hear ur an night owl 2. Anyways now that its holiday, im gonna sleep-in til 11. take care [wlm] Nehar |

Nehar.... Elenor is right. a few years ago I never slept. I did just fine on two hours a night. I could go for two or three weeks then I would sleep in on a Saturday until noon. Now that I'm over 40 I'm usually tied out by 9pm. Earlier if I sit down on the couch. Not only that, I go with my son to deliver papers in the am. After prayers and papers I take a nap from 6 to 7:15am. I don't get the chance to but I bet I could nap in the afternoon. AGE!!! |
