Assalamu alaykum,

It's been my dream to go to ISNA since i've heard of its existance 4 years ago. Insha'Allah this year i'll be able to go. However, since this will be my first time,i would like to have some heads up from the sisters who've gone before.

What was your impressions about it :the lectures, the fellow muslims? What about accomodations? Food?  Some Do's and Don'ts!

Jazakum Allahu Kheyran

Assalamu alaykum wa rahmatollahi wa barakatoh,

Jazakum Allahu kheyran for the replies and thank you Sr. Jannah for the link. I read the thread and it was most informative.

I do have few more questions though, mainly about the accomodation. Is at an arrange-by-yourself affair or does ISNA provide arrangements with specific hotels? I realise that the location of the convention is different each year but i would be extremely gratefull if any of you could provide an  estimate expenditure for the whole convention period including lodging, food, and any other extra costs one might incur.

And yeah one last thing. Are there restaurants catering to the convention? I have a rare case of allergy towards certain foods and i would like to know what are the options available.

Again jazakum Allahu kheyran

Sr. amal, check out the convention web site at http://www.isna.net/convention

When you register for the convention, you can also register for a hotel.  They usually give you 3 or 4 choices.  The farther away you get from the convention hall, the cheaper the price gets.  But none of the choices that they give in the form are farther than a couple of miles.  And they all have free shuttles that go back and forth between the convention hall and the hotels.

The price for hotels start at $75 I think.

Meals are served.  You can buy a meal plan on the registration form or pay for them there as you buy them.  The food last time was not good at all.  However, there are a few fast foods/restaurants close to the convention where you can go during lunch to eat.  The food that was served at the convention was catered desi (Indo-Pak) food I think.  I did see Pizza also, but again, it wasn't all that good.

Thats amazing, how many muslims are there in the US?

The biggest conventions we have here get around a few thousand.

Assalaamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatuh
Some interesting tidbits*:

US Muslim population: 6-8 million.
% of US pop'n:  2-3%
% of growth:    >25%

UK Muslim population: 3-4 million
% of UK pop'n:  4-6%
% of growth:    >100%

*these numbers are crude, various sources list different #s

Also, interesting is that the # of Muslims in the US slightly outweigh those of Jews in some statistics.
And call me ig'nant, but it wasn't until recently that I learned there are more Muslims in India than there are in Pakistan.
Ahh, statistics.  Brings back bad memories from grad school!

Assalamu alaykum,

Br. Arsalan jazakum Allahu kheyran for the info.
Sr. Spring, i was amazed to see the large number of muslims attending the conventions, mash'Allah. I guess it says something about the quality of the convention.
