| As the sun's rays begin to light the sky, A lone lady is heard to cry She trudges across the baking sand She holds a blood-drenched shirt in her hands A headless body lies at her feet, Uncontrollably she begins to weep This was her son who was killed yesterday, She looks at him and begins to pray Her mournful cries fill the sky, O how life went passing by! For three days he could drink nor eat Under uncontrollable heat Before his lonesome eyes, He saw how friends and relatives died How his baby son was killed in his hands How a well-loved brother died near the river banks How his nephew was cut to tiny pieces How were orphaned his little nieces But the lonely lady walks along, Her lonely spirit walks on and on Across the blood-stained golden sands, Across the wild and lonely lands Crying and weeping she walks along, Her spirit just walks on and on… -Extracted from: Al-Amal |
