Youth Club Opening Soon!!!!

Brothers and sisters,

We are opening a youth club soon, insha Allah, in an inner city area in the UK. It is an area with a high population of Muslims especially from Pakistani backgrounds.

Currently we have facilities such as a table tennis table, pool tables, table football, a multi-gym. We have two largeish rooms as well as this.

We're looking for ideas of what we can organise for the girls, short term and long term. We hope to introduce them to Islamic values in a more relaxed setting to what they are normally exposed to.

Does anyone have any suggestions??

We weren't actually planning to have the boys and girls use the facilties at the same time, surprisingly enough.

May Allah unite us all together, I think one of the things you can do is ask the sisters themselves what they want to do. It could be anything from a homework club to Karate and Fitness lessons. These all can be delivered by a sister giving talks on Islam and Fitness, the need to train for Allah. As for the homework club it can be a way to get kids off the street and into a safe, clean and drugs and alcohol free environment. Here you can also give dawah as to why we need to get off the streets and into an Islamic environment.

If you have the technical expertise and resources available then you can also produce a small community web page, what resources there are for the people in the community, what activities you do at the Youth Club and also as another form of Dawah ask the kids to produce a page on two on what they feel like being a British Muslim. (By the way if you want a hand on web page design or setting something up please get in touch with me.)

Few ideas of mine, as always all are and must be within the bounds of Sharia so no Bruthas or music by Britney Spears allowed :).

Islamic web Page Design for Sisters
Islamic Fitness Classes for Sisters ONLY
Islamic Homework Club for Sisters
Campaiging for poor and Needy in the Third World
Having a jumble sale or cake stall, all proceeds go to Islamic Relief
Talks and Presentations by Leading Muslim Sisters, on Professionalism, Community Work, Social Awareness
Knitting and Cookery Craft day
Mothers and daughters day
Creche Day for toddlers and moms

etc etc

Theres tons of other stuff that you can do, but above all its what the great Imam Bukhari said 'All actions are according to intentions'. Since your intentions are to get these sisters into a relaxed Islamic environment, you have started to gain the thawab in your bank account for the hearafter.

Nowdays its quite hard to get the youth off the street and into a good environment.
If you want further ideas on Youth Activity please get in touch with me.

I wish you all the best in this noble work and may Allah change the fortunes for our generations to come, just like Allah changed mine.

Allah is truly the greatest.

Salaam

Jazak Allah khair BroHanif,

Britney Spears. . . . whose that?!

That was really useful. Actually my ideas were pretty small in comparison. Insha Allah, in the future we'll be able to put them into practice. At the moment, I especially like the idea of karate classes. And the homework club does sound quite feasible.

Please make du'a for this project, its in its infancy.

Asalm walakum.
I think for the girls there should be useful stuff that would be useful to them when they are older, like how to cook, and tips on cleaning and looking nice. And childcare and sowing classes.

Wa'alaikumussalam warahmatullah :-)

Where is this, exactly ukhti? Sounds real cool, mashaAllah :)

U're not serious, right? Oh well...I only got to know abt Britney Spears during my last 2 weeks in the UK...

ermm... how about like a hairdressers course? We can create something for the community at large, when some of us *ahem*, know how to cut a decent hair cut, inshaALlah?

Remember my haircutting heydays? *heh heh*

Ahhh... memories... :-)

Barr, of course I remember your hair-cutting days, and you'll also remember that I never let you near mine!! He he.

Its in Manchester, insha Allah, Longsight. Near the market. My little bro, the one who is 14 has organised a camp which is on right now, there. Masha Allah. Little cutey.

Brother Jehad, a lot of the sister have alhamdulillah acquired the skills of cooking and cleaning and sewing through their mothers teaching. They have also learnt to look nice, because of the emphasis perhaps on this amongst the community we live in.

We are hoping to show them that these are not the only purposes of females, and that there is a much greater reason for our existence.

But thank you for your ideas.

Longsight..!! Man that is so kewl, I studied in Manchester Uni for 4 years, man was it kewl or was it super kewl.
Hows the area doing nowdays...??? Howz Wimmy Road, any new cafes/restaurants opened...??? Might come down some time again to see the place again.
I'll post some more ideas again. But the thing is start from something basic and build it from there, otherwise you'll have so many ideas but little resource to make them into positve actions.
What are the(your) ideas so far..?? Or what do you think is positive for those Mancunians in the Youth Club so far...??.
Have you applied for govt grants ???

Salaam

Another manc, well semi-manc really, cool!!

Mnachester is much the same as always. Wilmslow Road, that place is amazing, its like this continuous cycle of new cafes and restaurants, and shops. It is very, very cool.  How long is it since you were here?? To tell you the truth, there are only certain parts that I actually notice. I don't really notice the restaurants that much cos only go to Sanam, cos they don't have alcohol there.

But cafes, yes. There is this newish place, Jaffa, its like an Arab sort of cafe. Next door to this there is Al-Quds which is more like a take-away. But they do those amazing Kobeda kebabs.

There is another book shop that has just opened too, where frontline books used to be. Islamicbookclub.com. I like that shop, although its not that well established yet. You were probably here when World of Islam opened cos that has been there a couple of years.

Okay, basically as I mentioned initially, the club already has a few facilities. But these I think are aimed more at the boys. It has been open for the boys for a few weeks now. About twice a week. They just come a chill out there, play some games and relax. It really is aiming to get them off the streets. Cos as you'll know Longsight isn't the best place. And getting them to do other stuff. A lot of gangs and stuff around. The plan with the boys is to keep it an open centre where they can come and chill, but also provide them with study classes for school work etc. and circles on Islam. A centre for the community. It does seem to be working. About 20-30 lads come each evening its open.

With the girls, I'm not so sure, cos I don't think the same things will attract them. A lot of girls are used to staying at home, being taught to cook and clean and having these sort of expectations placed on them. Almost preparing them for marriage. And then they get to a certain age, maybe, 14-16 and think  hey, why can my bros go and do what they want. And that can be tough. I know I'm making gross generalisations, but I hope you get what I'm saying. We need some how to gain their trust and their parents trust, also. I think somehing similar to what the boys are doing with chances to chill and meet each other and just be with the girls. Maybe a few meals or something. Then I think the study classes, maybe useful.

Surely the above is a mistake Sis Spring ?
You mean that only girls chill with girls..???.

I thikn what your tranna do is a tea and biscuit round, where Sisters come have tea or coffe and sit and talk to each other. This is quite effective as the costs are small and the quality of chat is good.

I know where World of Islam bookshop is, thats where I got my parking ticket and 3 points on my licence.:(

Wheres this new cafe (jaffa and Al-Quds) When I'm in Manny nx time I'll pop down.

Had you all worried for a second?! If you read the whole thing it should make sense.

The girls will chill with the girls and the boys with the boys. Insha Allah. The girl's will be using the building at different times to the boys.

Jaffa and Al-Quds, are on a corner, near the roundabout which leads to the Central Mosque??

Jannah, were there probs with the Youth Club in Houston??

Jannah, you were right! Some adults in the community wanted to tear it down! And the fpc wasn't even informed. If some of the brothers hadn't accidently found out about it i doubt there would be a structure called fpc standing there right now. Inshallah nothing will happen even though some people still want to tear it down and make it into a parking space.

I think have you have stuff like "needle work" and "cooking" for the girls, perants and husbands will be happy for their kids to go there.
you can introduces other stuff once people get used to it.
