[slm] i read this on net want to share with you. NOBODY KNOWS Dedicated to Mohammad Al Durra, the young Palestinian martyr who lost his life to the wanton mercilessness of Israeli soldiers. Who was killed by more than just bullets and grenades__ by the indifference and insensitivity of Mankind. If only we could capture the magnitude of the suffering of those unfortunate millions in Palestine... If only we could realize that those screaming headlines from Gaza aren't just strips in black and white telling tales from far away... if only! "A 7-year old boy killed by Israeli soldiers", said the paper As Sir Henry carefully unfolded the Washington Post And straightened the specs on his nose On that misty November morning. And later that evening, Sir Henry did not forget to make a special mention of it To his high-brow colleagues at the Governor's banquet. Sir Henry did not forget to express his concern In that charming speech he made__ And the twist of his brow, The choice phrases and measured words Left an impression on his friends__ They all quoted it the next day. And Madame was kind enough not to forget making a special mention of it To her friends, who all tossed their heads from side to side Muttering 'how sad' Over the clink of champagne glasses And the babble of Honourable Ladies Enjoying themselves very much at a party In Washington City. But nobody, nobody knows That the stars that used to glisten in his eyes Whenever he smiled, Carried little hints of childhood dreams; That his laughter tinkled with the mischief of puerile schoolboy jokes; That the boys called him 'chubby' at school And envied him for his expertise at making paper planes; That he knew his numbers till twenty But got stuck at twenty-one; That Aaminah used to make apple-pies for him Every Saturday morning, Nobody, nobody knows... That a mother lost her world that night As the fireball hit her little one, As he lay writhing in pools of blood; That her silent screams echoed in the still night And shook the mighty Heavens... Nobody, nobody knows That Aaminah would eat her pies Alone On Saturday mornings; That the little sand-castle he made yesterday__ The little fragment of a child's dream of human life___ Would be washed away with the surging tides Today... Nobody, nobody knows. Memoona Sajjad. [wlm] |
