Ni'Ma (New International Muslim Association) will Insha Allah be sponsoring an event entitled "LOVING THE BELOVED" on Saturday, June 16th at 5 pm in Lehman College, Bronx, NY. The invited speakers are as follows: Shaykh Muhammad Al Yaqoubi, Shaykh Muhsin An-Najjar, and Imam Siraj Wahhaj. The program will include a presentation of Islamic songs (anasheed), poetry reading, raffles, prizes, and more.
Ni'Ma is hosting a poetry contest in connection with the LOVING THE BELOVED event to encourage all our brothers and sisters to use their creative talents to express their love for our prophet of Islam (SAW). Winners of this poetry contest will qualify for many of the prizes that will be awarded that night (more details posted below).
Tickets for LOVING THE BELOVED will be on sale at the following masajid: Islamic Society of Central Jersey, Islamic Center of Long Island, Mid-town Manhattan Masjid, and the Islamic Cultural Cneter at 96th st, NYC. By Car
From Westchester
Via New York State Thruway (I-87) south (it becomes Major Deegan Expressway) to Van Cortland Park South exit.
Follow directions below from Major Deegan Expressway. or
Via Saw Mill River Parkway south (it becomes Henry Hudson Parkway) to Mosholu Parkway exit.
Follow directions from Henry Hudson parkway. or
Via Bronx River Parkway south to Gun Hill Road exit.
Make a right from exit ramp and take Gun Hill Road
West to Jerome Avenue.
Turn left onto Jerome, following "EL" to W. 205 street.
Turn right, and proceed two short blocks to Goulden Avenue.
Make a left onto Goulden Avenue and proceed one block.
Campus is on left.  
 
From Manhattan-East Side
Via East River Drive to Willis Avenue Bridge (or Triborough Bridge-Bronx spur) to Major Deegan Expressway (I-87) north to Van Cortlandt Park South Exit.
Follow directions from Major Deegan Expressway.  
 
From Manhattan-West Side
Via West Side Highway north (it becomes Henry Hudson Parkway) to Mosholu Parkway exit.
Follow directions from Henry Hudson Parkway.  
 
From Queens and Eastern Long Island  
Via Grand Central Parkway to Triborough Bridge- Bronx spur to Major Deegan Expressway (I-87) north to Van Cortlandt Park South exit.
Follow directions from Major Deegan Expressway.  
 
Via Throgs Neck Bridge or Whitestone Bridge to Cross Bronx Expressway west to Major deegan Expressway(I-87) north to Van Cortlandt Park South exit.
Follow directions from Major Deegan Expressway.  
 
From Major Deegan Expressway
Exit at Van Cortlandt Park South.
At traffic light, turn left and proceed up the hill.
At Sedgwick Avenue, Turn left.
After the second traffic light, turn right onto Goulden Avenue.
Proceed two long blocks to Bedford Park Boulevard West, where the campus begins.
The parking lots are on your right.  
 
From Henry Hudson Parkway  
Exit at Mosholu Parkway.
Proceed on long exit ramp.
At the second traffic light, turn right into the center of a traffic island.
Continue straight ahead on Paul Avenue for two long blocks.
At Bedford Park Boulevard, turn right and then left onto Goulden Avenue.
The parking lots are on your right.  
 
Subways
Take the IRT No.4 Lexington Avenue or teh IND "D" line to the Bedford park Boulevard station. Walk west to the campus. For Information, call 718-330-1234

The following buses stop near the Lehman campus: Nos. 1,2,3,9,10,12,22,25,26,28,32 and 34.  
 
Manhattan Express Buses

Ni'MA invites all our Muslim brothers and sisters to submit original poems for this contest. The winners will be announced at Ni'MA event "Loving the Beloved" at Lehman College on June 16th. The grand prize winner in the adult category and the top three winners in the children's category will be invited to recite their poems.  
 
Please read the following carefully:  
 
GUIDELINES
* All works must be in English and can be in any style of poetry.  
* The subject is Rasulillah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him), focusing on his blessed characteristics and/or love of him.  
* Poems must be original and unpublished. Ni'MA reserves the right to publish winning poems on the official Ni'MA website.  
* Adult submissions should be limited to 20 lines.
Children's submissions should be limited to 10 lines.  
* All submissions must include information about the author, including full name, address, phone number, age, and e-mail address, if applicable. In addition, all paper submissions must be type written; 12 font, double-spaced; and must include two copies.  
* Adult submissions can be e-mailed to nima_poetry@yahoo.com.
Children's submissions can be sent to Qasidat@aol.com.  
 
SUBMISSION DEADLINE: JUNE 10, 2001*
*submissions that are mailed must be postmarked by June 9, 2001  
 
PRIZES
* All contestants (adult & children) MUST be present at "Loving the Beloved" event in order to qualify for their prizes.  
* The grand prize for the adult category is a round trip ticket to Zaytuna Institute or a monetary compensation.  
- The ticket will be valid between June 30, 2001 and June 30, 2002  
- Trip does not include housing accommodations but contact information will be provided  
* Two runners-up in the adult category will win a free semester of one Ni'MA class in New York.  
* The grand prize for the children's category is a $100 Gift Certificate to an Islamic bookstore of the winner's choice.  
* The 2 runner-ups in the Youth category will also receive prizes.
