A few branches to our tree....

Asalaamu Alaikum ;-)

Our Masjid currently puts up a different verse of the Qu'ran on our noticeboard each week to serve as a nice reminder for those who wish to reflect on the words contained.

It got me thinking though.

What one verse of the Qu'ran would you say has had the most impact on your life?

What verses have made you become a better Muslim?

What verses do you constantly go back to?

If someone gave you the chance to quote only one verse, which one would you quote?

That's a lot of questions but feel free to post whatever you're comfortable with.

What about me I hear you cry? ;-)

Well if I had to pick only one, it'd be tough, but the verses below would be high up on my list:

Those who have faith and do righteous deeds,- they are the best of creatures. Their reward is with Allah: Gardens of Eternity, beneath which rivers flow; they will dwell therein for ever; Allah well pleased with them, and they with Him: all this for such as fear their Lord and Cherisher. [98:7-8]

'I have not created Jinn and man but to worship me.' (Az-Zariyah)

Its like an explanation for our whole existence in one phrase. Its the whole meaning of what life is all about in a few words. I remember first being taught about these verses and what they meant and how that should impact in our life. And everything just seemed to click. Our whole life was to serve Allah (swt), whatever we did was meant for His worship, nothing else.

'By oath, by the passing of time man is at a loss except for those who believe and do good deeds and exhort others to the truth and exhort others to steadfastness.'(Al-Asr)

'Allah charges no soul save to its capacity, to it what it has earned and against it what it has merited; our Lord take us not to task if we forget or make mistakes; our Lord charge us not with a burden such as you did place on those who were before us, our Lord load not upon us that which we are unable to bear, and pardon us and forgive us and have mercy on us, You are our patron so help us against those who disbelieve.'(Al-Baqarah)

Its been a constant solace to know that no matter what is happening in my life, it is not something that is too great for me. Through Allah's mercy, He will never give me more than I can take, although it may seem like it at the time.

'Truly in the remembrance of Allah, do hearts find rest.'
I'm not sure which Surah thats in. I think its Baqarah.

Good question Brother Khalid, never really thought about it before.

[slm],

It is reported that Imam Shafi' said that if all that was revealed in the Qur'an was the short Surah Asr, it would suffice for the believers.

Surah Fatiha is my favorite. A Dua from the believer to which Allah (swt) responds by giving him the whole of Qur'an.

Enjoy... These are so beautiful.

This is Yusuf Ali

2:255

Allah ! There is no God but He-the Living, the self-subsisting. Supporter of all, no slumber can seize him nor sleep. His are all  things in the heavens and on earth. Who is thee can intercede in his presense except as he permitteth. He knoweth what(appeareth to his creatures as )Before or after or Behind them. Nor shall they compass aught of his knowledge except as he willeth. His throne doth extend over the heavens and the earth , and he feeleth no fatigue in gaurding or preserving them for he is most high, the supreme (in glory).

24:35

Allah is the light of the heavens and the earth. The parable of his light is as if there was a niche and within it a lamp the lamp enclosed in glass. the glass as is if it were a brilliant star: lit from a blessed tree an olive, neither of the east nor of the west
whose oil is well nigh luminous though fire scarce touched it.Light upon light.

31:17

O my son establish regular prayer, enjoin what is just and forbid what is wrong and bear with patient constancy whatever betide thee, for this is firmness(of purpose)in (the conduct of) affairs.

Guys where is the verse about with hardship will come ease and with ease will come hardship???

Assalamu Alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh

If someone gave me a chance to quote just one verse from the Glorious Qur'an, I would quote: Unless he repents, believes, and works righteous deeds, for Allah will change the evil of such persons into good, and Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful - [25:70]

As salamu alaykum

I love to listen to Surah 55, Ar-Rahman in Arabic. One of my friends had the most beautiful voice when she recited it, so it brings back many good memories.

Assalamu'alaikum :-)

It's very difficult for me to pin-point to a particular verse(s), coz, a lot of verses have shaped my life... and at different phases/parts of my life, different verses gave different/ same effects, impact and texture to my life.

But inshaAllah... here r some that comes to my mind and heart at the moment.... I'm sorry if this is a bit too long.
What one verse of the Qu'ran would you say has had the most impact on your life?
Bismillahirrahmanirrahim
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

I think, my life took a turn when I took part in the discussion of Surah Al-Fatihah during my first usrah. And this being the first verse, and when I realise what In the Name of Allah... meant, in relation to me, being a Muslim... I think, inshaAllah... perhaps this is the verse that has the most impact.
What verses have made you become a better Muslim?
Surah An-Nisa:95 - 96

Such of the believers as remain passive - other than the disabled - cannot be deemed equal to those who strive hard in God's cause in their possessions and their lives. God has exalted those who strive hard with their posessions and their lives far above those who remain passive. Although God has promised good unto all (believers), yet has God exalted those who strive hard above those who remain passive by (promising them) a mighty reward - (many) degrees thereof - and forgiveness of sins, and His grace; for God is indeed much forgiving, a dispenser of grace.
What verses do you constantly go back to?
Surah Al-Baqarah:25
But unto those who have attained to faith and do good works give glad tidings that theirs shall be gardens through whih running waters flow... And there shall they have spouses pure, and there shall they abide

Surah As-Saff:10
O U who have attained to faith! Shall I point out to you a bargain that will save U from grievous suffering [in this world and in the life to come]? U are to believe in God and and the Messenger and to strive hard in God's cause with your possessions and your lives: this is for your own good - if U but knew it

Surah At-Tawbah:38
O U who believe! What is the matter with U, that when U are asked to march forth in the cause of Allah, U cling heavily to the earth? Are U pleased with the life of this world rather than the Hereafter? But little is the enjoyment of this world compared to the Hereafter.

Surah Al-Layl:17-21
For, distant from it shall remain he who is truly conscious of God, that he spends his posessions (on others) so that he might grow in purity - not as payment for favours received, but only out o fthe longing for the countenance of his Sustainer, the All-Highest, and such indeed, shall in time be well pleased.

Surah Ar-Ra'd:28
those who believe, and whose hearts find rest in the rememberance of Allah - for verily, in the rememberance of ALlah, [men's] hearts do find their rest

Same verse as quoted by Spring, mashaAllah :-)

And a lot more of other verses... each of them holds a story....

And another one, amongst many others... when I do feel down... this always sets me at peace again, inshaALlah...

Surah At-Talaq:2-3
And unto everyone who is conscious of Allah, He (always) grants a way out (of unhappiness), and provides for him in a manner beyond all expectation; and for everyone who places his trust in Allah, He (alone) is enough. Verily Allah always attains to His purpose (and) indeed, unto everything has God appointed it's (term and) measure.
