Where is the privacy for women?

Assalamu Alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh

Here's another story from today's (20 June 2001) issue of the Arab News (Saudi Arabia):

Where is the privacy for women?

Visiting the Kingdom's shopping centers, the thing all Muslims will find most irritating is the absence of privacy for women. Saudi Arabia is the leading Muslim country and it is unfortunate that its shopping centers, unlike those in other countries, have no special sections for women's clothing, cosmetics or personal items with women sales staff to deal with women customers.

Young, aggressive, self-satisfied and perfumed salesmen sporting the latest hairstyle and dressed in the latest fashion should not be allowed to serve women customers, especially when they are shopping for clothing or underwear. Many women in the Kingdom do their shopping in a hurry, never checking the size, design or style they want in order to escape the embarrassment of approaching a salesman asking about such clothes. Is it our religion, custom or tradition that women sell men's underwear? Why then do we tolerate men selling women's clothing and underwear?

I suggest that the authorities investigate the consequences of this unacceptable practice. They should eliminate direct contact between women and salesmen which can lead to illegal behavior. Surely the wisest course of action would be to have women, Saudi or not, serving other women who are shopping for personal items. Islam does not prohibit women from working as long as veiling, modesty and moral requirements are fulfilled. Fahd Abdul Aziz Nasser / Ar-Riyadh

Assalam Alaikum

Is the above news report a surprise????

This is the same country who implement Kufr rules and laws and disregard the Shariah.

This is the same country that has a kingship and believes in its own national sovereignty.

This is the same country that allowed the disbelieving Kufr army into its land to lanch an attack on another Muslim land (Iraq during that Gulf war).

And once again, this is the same country that watches our Muslim brothers and Sisters get raped and murdered buy the occupying Jewish entity of Isreal

So...is it a surprise that they show no regard for the Islamic Social system in their own land.

[slm] I was quite shocked when I saw that there were NO women salespeople AT ALL anywhere in saudi. I find it quite inappropriate and rather disgusting that there were men salespeople selling stuff at Victoria's Secret, women's clothing stories, lotion places, Bath and Body works etc....It is just not befitting haya' for Muslims.

Sorry for being so blunt but what I meant was, writing to the Islamic constitute of Arabia,  to the Ministry of Vice, Write to the Ministry of Islamic Culture and Heritage, to the embassys in US of A. Wite to all the papers in saudia, all the Islamic Institutes, all the women shops etc etc. Have an online poll as well to promote women selling womens products etc etc. If you want to make a change it starts with yourself. Get in touch with brother Haniff he lives in saudia I'm sure he could help u get in touch with the right contacts.
And put my name after yours.

Salaam
