| salam, in less than two weeks im going to go fro college for a summer program, and im staying on campus, its not too far from home, but if i dont stay on campus it messes up my whole financial need, so i ask u sisters (and brothers if they wish) esp for those of you who have been thru this allready to pls give me some advice, i have seen ppl go and change a whole lot, most for the worse, so any advice would be greatly appreicieted (spelled wrong) wasalam nouha:) |

| Bismillah and salam, Sister nouha, My advice from experience is: don't do it! It is better to stay with mahrams if at all possible. Keep in mind that rizq (income, food,etc) is something that is already written. So don't compromise and put yourself at risk. If this is not an option at this point. I would say stick to practicing mosque going sisters. If none exist in the dorm, then don't go making best-friends with whoever is around. It is better to stay steadfast and focused. It's only one summer after all right? I know some people are going to jump down my throat for this. But the truth is not here to please anyone in particular. And I honestly want to give you the best advice I know. The prophet saws said to be kind and friendly to all people but to only be best friends with (not just a muslim) but it has to be someone who is a mu'min! so yes, we are allowed to be friends with other people who are not muslims but basically don't trust them to watch your back. I will just mention another thing the prophet said to clearify this point. even though feeding any hungry liver will give you sadaqa you should invite the God fearing "taqi" to share your food if you were to invite not coz someone is hungry and you're trying to help but in terms of inviting for company! Remember you're entrusted with your body/soul only for a given time. It belongs to Allah.keep your prayers on time. Then there are many common sense stuff..if you stay at the library late, always always use service like volunteer walk homes (most uni's have them) instead of walking alone in the dark thinking the dorm is close enough.
