Everybody needs to read, serious problem...

I would like to address everybody first by wishing everybody is in the best health and imaan inshaAllah.

There are some serious problems I have run into, and I need everybodys help in helping me solve them, InshaAllah.

The first problem is that a brother came to Birmingham, Alabama about a month ago and started to talk to the youth bashing Dr. Jamaal Badawi, Yusuf Quardawi, Hamzah Yusuf and others, regarding to them as "Ahlul Biddah" (People of Innovation).  My question to anybody who opposes them, what thing did these people do to innovation anything in Islaam.  The arguement this guy said, that it was the practice of the Salaf not to even listen to the people of Ahlul Biddah.  You should close your ears if they enter a room that you are in.  So people give me responses to the problem and other peoples views on it.  If you can it would really help.

My second problem is more on a community level.  This community in Birmingham is being hit by division after division.  Some concerned youth around here are starting to team up and are going to address this to the different organizations which pop up.  InshaAllah if our intentions are correct, then nothing can stand in our way.  But this I would like to address more on a personal level (phone contact) than anything, at the least let it be through AIM.  If people have any input in this problem (if their community has been though it) and have seeked solutions to it, please please email me (contact me with the link below, and I would personally like for my two teachers Arshad and Arsalan to contact me).

This person that is doing this bashing why has he accused these scholars of being Ahlul Biddah?  What problems does he see with them?  What group does he represent and who are his scholars and teachers?  Have these scholars been consulted about this matter?  This is a problem that seems to be very prevalent in this day.

Sheikh Muhammad Ibn Saleh Ibn 'Uthaymeen (may Allah have mercy on his soul) was asked the following question:

Question: Is it correct for a group of students of knowledge to make a
ruling on an individual without going to him to speak with him or advise him first and instead go to others and warn them against this person and spread this?

Answer: No. No. Never! First if you hear something about a person and you see him as mistaken there are stages. The first stage is confirmation. The transmission about the person may or may not be correct. How many people transmit some statement about a person and they either misunderstand it or with the intention of causing enmity between the Muslims? So first is confirmation. And what could be better than the statement of Shaykh Al-Islam (Ibn Taymiyyah) in refutation of the Raafidhah (Shi'ah) in his book The Way of the Sunnah about when a text is mentioned "the first thing demanded is verification of the transmission." This is a rule and important. Secondly, if the transmission is verified let us look. Is there an explanation for it that perhaps the transmitter did or did not understand? If we see that there is an explanation and the transmitter misunderstood, we say to the transmitter "Brother fear Allah! The man isn't such and such!" or "The meaning is so and so." In this case we would be defending the truth and saving this man from slandering his brother (buhtaan). Thirdly, if there is no explanation then it is obligatory that we go to whom the news is being said about and say "We heard such and such. Is it correct or not?" If he says yes then we should be polite and mannerly with him and not provoke or upset him and let him know there is a problem here. Did not Allah say such and such did not the Messenger say such and such? It is necessary that we return to the truth. He may have knowledge that is not with me and when I engage him he may point me to some knowledge and it would obligatory to follow it.

The type of brother in question seems familiar. What you have to remember is that he is most likely a pure muqallid, and the only effect he will have on your da'wah is determined by how much you allow him to side-track and distract you from your work.

Just keep up the good work & leave the results in Allah's Hands.

Jazakullah Khair for the replies... the incident what happened today that I was talking to another youth over here, and for some reason I had mentioned "Dr. Jamal Badawi said..." and all of a sudden he turns around and walks away.  He was one of the people who listened to my friend and said "I have authentic proof that whatever Jamal Badawi is [cant say]"

:(
made me very mad... but anyways, have your communities gone though divisons/splits?
if so give me ideas and experienes... and your feelings on it, jazakullah khair

Unfortneatly this seems to be a on-going and disturbing trend.  Amongst some brothers who consider themselves to be on the "Quran and Sunnah", these brothers have now started attacking other scholars known to be on the "Quran and Sunnah", famous daiees who have been known and respected over many years.  And these people (the attackers) have started circulating e-mails to the masses where they now accuse these daiees of various accusations.  Amongst those who are being attacked (these are NOT the ones attacking, but being attacked), are :

Bilal Phillips
Sheikh Suhaib Hassan
Ali At Timeeme
Jamal Zarabozo
Abu Muslimah
Mohammed Adly

And worst of all, these people (the attackers) have even issued a FATWA saying it's haram to read Sayid Qutb!!!

There is one of two things going on here.  Either these daiees are being attacked because they are not 100% behind some of the goverments
who sponsor the "Quran and Sunnah" movement, or there is a HUGE amount of control at play here.  It seems that, contrary to the real Salafs, there is an attempt to brainwash and control the masses, to the extent that some people are now saying "I and what my group are saying is correct, and the rest of the world is wrong, and if you don't agree with us, and the fact that everyone else is wrong, you are a deviant".

If anyone thinks I'm making this up, I can publish some of the e-mails I have received.  But I warn you, it's very disturbing.

Assalaam alaikum wa rahmatu Allahi wa barakatuhu,
This thread has struck a chord very deep in my heart.  I have been so
shocked in the last few weeks about how easy it is for Muslims to call
other Muslims(especially scholars and da'wah workers) nasty names, thus
making many of their students or those that hold them in respect doubt
their work and their true intentions.  When we see that the result is
this: that of Muslims being divided and doubting the very people doing
the most for our community, we don't need to be geniuses to figure out
that our enemies are at work, BUT we are helping them hand over foot.
How?  We don't follow the instructions that brother Bhaloo quoted from
Sheikh 'Uthaymeen, may Allah be merciful to him.  Instead, we fan the
flames and pass on the rumors etc.  I don't know which one of the
slanders to feel worse about.  It hurts so much to see the Muslims all divided
among themselves, calling to different turuq and forgetting there is
only one.  The tareeq of the Prophet, peace and blessings upon him, and
the sahabah.  Why have all these new different "Islamic groups" popped
up?  Why are we mistrusting each other?  Why don't we follow the sunnah?
Indeed a great fitnah has fallen upon us.  I see with such sorrow the
end of time upon us, and fear that I will fall in a deviant group, away
from the correct Sunnah. May Allah protect us all.
Look at how many great scholars have died, may Allah grant mercy to all
of them, in the last 3 years.  We know that knowledge will disspear at
the end of time with the death of scholars.  May Allah save us from
this great fitnah and return us to the Qur'an and the Sunnah of our dear
Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him.
