Promotion of homosexuality in public schools??

Assalaamu alaikum wa rahmatullah

Unfortunately, I've been somewhat out of the loop with national news topics lately, as a random stranger lady at a popular shopping venue pointed out to me yesterday.  She had asked me if I knew what was happening at my "children's" public schools, what recent legislation is promoting.  Apparently, my muslim "children" in public schools risk having homosexuality "shoved down their throats" since the National Education Association (something like this) is drafting (has already? I really don't know) a resolution that would promote the development of homosexual curriculum/programs in public schools.  She proceeded to tell me to inform Muslim groups to help "them" (she didn't really tell me what organization she was part of) oppose this agenda.
Has anyone heard of this?  I remember hearing a little about this a while back, that some Muslim organizations (along with other interest groups) were lobbying against this or something like this.  Mannn, I should pay more attention.  But I'd be innerested in knowing what became of this, and what we can do at this point to help.  JazaakAllahu khairan for any info!
Also, for those with children in public schools, has this topic come up as part of school curriculum yet?

May Allah show us the truth as truth and help us embrace it, and show us falsehood as falsehood and help us and all our children stay far from it, aameen.

Bismillah and salam,
There is something called the "rainbow" curriclum in schools. Even in daycare now you will see stories of two mommies and two daddies type of thing.

salam,
yes i've heard of this. but i think if they have it, the schools will have to get permission from the parents, to teach it.

I am a teacher and while I was studying education in college, my professors did promote homosexuality and even tried to illustrate ways in which the idea could be incorporated into the curriculum when we would all become teachers.  They acted like it was some major discrimination when teachers don't do it and that it was a serious problem that needs to be addressed, like kids doing drugs or parent neglect.  I have also seen those books about children with 2 dads and yes, they are being read to students in public schools.  There are more and more books coming out and more and more teachers with the attitude like, "well, why not? We read other books, why not read 'My second mommy'?"  Not only literature, but teachers are inviting gay couples into the classroom, showing them gay art, talking about it with children, and  instilling within them probably a desire to be gay or at least, an acceptance of homosexuality.

My advice to all parents is to keep your children out of public schools because they are so much different now than they were even 10 years ago.  There is just too much pressure in public schools now to ask your children to battle, ignore, and overcome. Insha'Allah, when they have a solid Islamic eduacation from an Islamic school and their parents, they will be contribute to their communities and to the Muslim ummah.

Assalaamu alaikum wa rahmatullah,

JazaakAllahu khairan 4 filling me in, I don't feel as out of touch now.  :-)  (it maybe b/c I don't have children!  well, on top of being generally clueless...)
I knew things had changed since I'd been in school (which I didn't think was *that* long ago), when this topic was still taboo, and rather looked down upon (even in the early 90's).  But come on, gay *promotion*?  That's pretty much what this comes down to, the stranger lady was right.  What business does the public school system have in promoting any type of sexuality, anyways?  There's obviously an agenda here, outside of so-called "anti-discrimination" programs...continuing to aid in the moral decay of youth today (not all, alhamdulillah) is not too surprising to anyone, I'm sure.
I'll have to ask my friends with children in public schools what they've come across, iA.  And I completely agree, Zahra, we should really try to look towards Islamic schools, or even home schooling if that's not available, rather than the current public school system (which I would have said even b4 I knew about this issue; there are soooo many other downsides to public schooling).
May Allah kaep us all on the straight path, and all our children too, iA, aameen.

So folks, what are your kids learning in public school? Get them out of
there before it is too late or your little darling will come home one
day and say mom and dad, I am gay!!!! You don't want to hear these words.

Pro-Family Groups Attack NEA's Alleged Homosexual Agenda

By Seth Lewis

CNSNews.com Correspondent

June 27, 2001

http://www.cnsnews.com/ViewNation.asp?Page=\Nation\archive\200106\NAT20010627a.html
(CNSNews.com) - Pro-family conservatives are stepping up their efforts to
thwart the National Education Association's expected push to teach
homosexuality in public schools.

James C. Dobson, president of Focus on the Family, called on his radio-show
listeners Tuesday to help his group stage a rally at the NEA's annual
convention next week in Los Angeles. The group hopes to protest what it
calls a movement within the teachers' organization to "integrate all K-12
classes in every subject with pro-gay curriculum."

"This has implications for every school in the nation," Dobson said. "Tens
of millions of children would be taught this for thirteen years in all five
subjects every single day."

Dobson's group says NEA president Bob Chase has vowed to "do everything in
his power to assure that gay issues are promoted in every state." Asked
about such claims Tuesday, NEA spokeswoman Kathleen Lyons declined to
comment.

To illustrate his opposition, Dobson cited an incident at a grade school in
Marin County, Calif., where students attended a mandatory
homosexual-oriented assembly. "The group taught the children slogans such as
'I'm gay, it's OK,' and performed skits - one in which Rapunzel cut her hair
and ran away with her girlfriend."

Meanwhile, the Pro-Family Law Center announced this week it has drafted a
legal form that allows parents to keep their children out of homosexual
instruction in public schools.

Parents can use the form, dubbed the "Student Opt-Out Notice," to require
schools to get their permission before teaching "gender studies" or "AIDS
education," among other things.

"That puts control back in the hands of the parents and out of the hands of
social engineers," said Scott Lively, the group's director and attorney.

If the NEA approves a pro-homosexual agenda, Lively - whose group calls
itself "America's only legal organization devoted exclusively to opposing
the homosexual political agenda" - said he believes it will embolden
conservative activists.

"To have these self-appointed social engineers take up the role of
re-educating children with homosexuality, I think is going to transform our
society. I think we're going to see massive support for the pro-family
groups," he said.
