A few years ago, I asked Jannah what Albany was like, and she said, "We have nothing here but cows and malls, that's it".

And as they say, the rest is history. ;)

It wasn't long before stories about cow-tipping, boys frolicking around in the open green pastures, COW-boys, Eid MOO-barak cards, farm life, hicksville, and other stories developed and spread.  These stories were confirmed to be true by some other Albanian(s) (their names are being withheld) and this encouraged this behavior even further.

Sonny dear, we have no idea what you are talking about. What does that shah have anything to do with cows? He must be going crazy in old age.

Sonny, all this cow talk is just some cow jokes I have with the Albanian people and other people have joined in on the fun.  That's the truth.  They get back at me and call me a "Surfer Dude" cause I'm from California.  Just a little humor between us.

Like Saleema said, I have no idea what this shah of Iran and how this cow stuff are related.

Assalaamu alaikum,

Now that Sr. Patti has cleared the way... let me say a few things about Albany. When I recently visited Albany top on the list of missions was to find out about this whole cow-albany deal. You know being a non-albanyian and all and seeing all the jibes between the albanyians (the mafia to be exact) and the non-albanyian I got sucked in.

Well, I did not see any cows :( Unfortunately! I tried hard but .. maybe my host who was an albanyian purposely drove me around those barns where cow-tipping is practiced ;) So I am still skeptical :) After all, Jannah did mention cow and malls, hmm.

Okay a bit more on the serious side.. albany is kinda hickish in nature trying hard to grow up. You find the same acres of pavements, shopping centers, car dealers, McDs, ghettos, etc like in any other town but all at a lesser intensity, which btw is not bad... I found out that albany does not have kroger, they do their groceries at weird named stores. What else... ah, albany has an airport! What really impressed me about the airport was that as soon as the plane backed out of the gate the captian announces: "cabin crew prepare for takeoff" and one turn and a few seconds later we are up in the air! No long sightseeing trips and no queues. Wow.

Rural albany is wooded so it is unlikely that a cow farm exists. But again, I only saw the routes that my albanyian brother drove me on ;)

There is a New Albany where I live. I think Albanyians want to become like us, but keep dreaming ...

Another thing, on my flight into albany half of the passengers were senior citizens. Is Albany a retiring place? The lady sitting next to me used to live in albany but now retired in Tenessee. I can't say about the rest, but the huge numbers were kinda weird. Maybe that is also a sign of hickville ;)

Arright, this is all in fun, don't bombard me, okay :)

Wasalaam.

I suspect your host was part of Jannah's Mafia clan....

Asim, were you ever even *in* Albany?  The airport is on the outskirts of the city.. the retreat was in a small town in the Adirondacks.. are you perhaps confusing Albany with your own city? :)

hmm the speed limit here is a little faster than the one in ohio where ur usually stuck behind jim `andy and his little corn tractor for half a mile. maybe in the rush u kinda got a little dazed and confused ;)

You know what, I am now convinced that the cow-albany thing is true. Even after I denied seeing any cows the albanyians come and poke holes in my observations. I bet there is a whole section of albany where this funny business goes on ... and albanyians like it that way ;)

I guess that is better than being stuck behind grandma and her poopsie in their cadillac doing 10 mph in a 45 mph road :)

Seriously, what are the demographics of albany? It does appear that there is a greater percentage of senior citizens there than here in Columbus.

My gracious host Jawad drove me around a bit so I did see some of albany (not the cow section though :)). It is definitely a sleepy town as compared to where I live (which is not too dynamic either)

Except for the huge cities like NYC, SF, etc all US cities look alike. The only difference is how dynamic they are. Albany kind of falls close to hicksville ;)

Brother Asim, I loved your review of Albany. You described it just as I had always imagined it.

And I thought they didn't have Walmart? just weird supermarket places where they go shopping...

They do have a Walmart an Albany.

Out here in California if you were to ask me what a Walmart was 5 years ago, I would have no idea what you are talking about, because that's when the 1st one appeared around here.  Its a good place to go buy things at a reasonable price, and they even have an online store, www.walmart.com
