Alhamdulilah, i was able to go to the ICNA conference this past weekend-I went friday night and all day saturday. I would have to say that the highlight of the conference was the bazaar- i know, i know that sounds really awful and shallow, but everything was much cheaper than they are at ISNA. Like hijabs- so many beautiful hijabs in so many colors for only $5!! At ISNA I could only find ones for $10. I don't really have many opportunities to buy new hijabs so I was very happy to take advantage of it, being a new hijabi and all.

It was also so wonderful to just watch the people (don't worry, i lowered my gaze, i meant the muslimahs!) and see everyone dressed up appropriately, no excess skin assaulting your eyes. It was incredibly beautiful- and that's what it truly was, like, beauty DEFINED. It showed you what true beauty was, not what Cosmo or those other magazines say it should be. And i could really tell the difference when we went over to the food court at the Galleria where they had all the halal food, and it's in a mall, so there were non-Muslims there as well, and i saw these girls in their shorty shorts and micro-mini skirts and i could only shake my head and feel thankful enough that i knew what TRUE beauty really was. It's like you could tell they were trying so hard to be what they thought beautiful was and just failing miserably. Anyway, at the conference it was beautiful to see all the Sisters in jilbab and hijab :) Especially as you would walk down the street and see groups of Muslims walking along or waiting to cross the street- it was a neat experience to be surrounded by more Muslims than non-Muslims for once and it made me sad when the conference ended, to have to go back to the real world.

The whole conference had more of a political theme to it, and they discussed issues like racism and justice. It was also kinda neat because the Imams of the Kaaba and of Al-Aqsa were both there. A congressman Paul Findley was there, and he was very supportive of Muslim causes and sympathetic to Muslims in general which was nice (and surprising) to see. I also got to listen to Imam Siraj Wahaj for the first time, so that was enjoyable.

Inshallah I'll post a little more about the lectures I went to later, but now it's time for lunch :)
