For those interested in media, BBC Scotland is currently in the process of making a programme about Islamophobia, and are interested in the views of Scottish Muslims. For further information, contact catherine.garvie@bbc.co.uk, or alternatively phone 0141 338 3260. Moving on, we have three excellent events coming up for Muslims within the U.K. A Qur’an RecitalCourse, for both brothers and sisters, will Insha Allah commence from 1st-31st August, under the supervision of Sheikh Ayman Rushdy Swaid, teacher of the infamous Sheikh Abu Bakr Shatri. The course is held in the European College for Islamic Studies in Wales, and costs £200 (including residence and food). The Sheikh’s wife will supervise the sisters, and further information can be obtained from 01570 480 166. Alternatively email equiries@eihs.ac, or check out the site at www.eihs.ac. For those of you who have always wanted to learn Arabic, the next event is a must. A Six Week Intensive Arabic Course starting on 1st July- 15th August, same venue and fee, and information site as above. Again, it is open for both brothers and sisters. |

infamous 1. Of ill fame or repute; notorious, esp. for wickedness, evil, etc. 2. Deserving of infamy, shamefully wicked or vile; abominable. infamy 1. Bad reputation; scandalous repute; public shame or disgrace; an instance of this. 2. The quality of being shamefully vile; a disgraceful act. Source: The Shorter Oxford Dictionary infamous 1. Having an odious reputation; notorious. 2. Involving infamy. infamy 1. Total lack of honour or reputation. 2. That which is odious; depravity; an infamous act. Source: Webster's Comprehensive Dictionary For what it's worth Br/Sr Anonymous, I don't for a second think that you intended to say this about Sh. Ash-Shatri but I do think that it shows a lesson for us all. The words we use on this board are open to scrutiny and interpretation by all. Perhaps it would benefit us all if we chose our words with a little more care and attentiveness. If we all did that, I'm sure many of the "disagreements" on this board would either never exist in the first place (because, to borrow a phrase, we're all singing from the same hymn sheet at the end of the day) or would be resolved more quickly and less messily. Sorry if it seems like I'm getting on your case. Salaam. |
