Memorizing the Quran

I heard that if you memorize the Quran, you can take seven people to janaah with you...

would this work, by any measure... if I wanted to save my non-muslim family...

If 7 is too much to ask for, like 3 non-believers? A.A. abdullah,.

If that were true, Allah's prophet would surely have pulled some of his non-muslim relatives notably his uncle abu talib. But abu talib is destined for hell 'cos he did not finally accept the truth.. he could not forsake his culture and his pagan beliefs even at the death bed.
well, the notion we get is that no one is responsible for any one else's actions even to increase or decrease as to what the other has earned. Prophet Noah's son could not be saved nor Prophet Lot's wife.
But this doesnt mean you cant pray for ur family when they still have a chance. To accept the supremacy 'n' Truth of Allah's religion over all other ways. You should pray to Allah to have mercy on them for none can guide who Allah leaves to astray and none can lead astray whom Allah guides. We pray for ur family, inshaAllah.

What zamzam said is correct.  Just to reiterate, Allah (swt) has forbidden Paradise for anyone who refuses to believe in the Unity of Allah (swt).  Thus a person who memorises the Qur'an can take with him/her any seven people to Paradise, with the *exception* of a disbeliever.

Innalladheena kafaroo min ahlil kitaabi wal mushrikeena fee naari jahannama khaalideena feeha; oolaa'ika hum sharrul bariyyah

"Indeed those who disbelieve from among the People of the Book (Jews and Christians) and the polytheists will be in Hell Fire - they will live therein; they are the worst of creatures."  (Surah al-Bayyinah)

You may pray for your parents or family members who are not Muslim yet, in their lifetime, that Allah may show them the right path.  You can also make da'wah to them in various ways.  However, you cannot pray for your relatives, or anyone else for that matter, if they passed away without entering the fold of Islam, as this was specifically forbidden by Allah in the Qur'an.

Wassalamu alaikum.

Assalamualaikum wa rahmatullah
Anik, don't lose hope. No one can say whether or not anyone will become muslim or die as one. Allah guides whomesoever He wills. Our duty is only to show, in whatever way we can, the truth about Islam. Try to teach them about this faith and keep praying for their guidance. I think that's all that can be done. InshaAllah they will recognize the Truth and embrace it. Ameen

Wassalam
