Bismillah and sisters,

I am happy to say that i found some free patterns to make islamic clothes or cross stich on the web if you go to mygarden.com then to crafts section.

I would like to remind the sisters of a part of hadeeth i have here in a book. It is narrated by salman bin farisi and it is the prophet talking to fatima ra after she was upset that her and her husband ali had an argument. The relevant part roughly means: "...The best of worship for a women is to obey their husbands, and then spinning/weaving. if you sit for one hour at the maghzal (what is it the loom?)is better for her than a year's worship and it is written for them for each of the articles they make the rewards of martyrs, my daughter if a woman spinning to cloth her husband and her chilren, jannah is wajiba for her..."

If anyone has the proper translation please feel free to put it up.

http://www.total.net/~shazeeda/

For the islamic x-stitch:
http://www.stitchpatterns.com/

I sure hope you will try the site because I made a mistake it is http://www.islamicgarden.com/
not my garden astaghfirullah. I like the children's sites as well.

Assalam alaikum wa rahmtullah
I like to stich and embroider :) but am not very good at them :(
Anywayss, a few days ago I found this interesting site : http://www.classicstitches.com . It's not islamic but I think the site is well made and there are a whole load of ideas for those who like to cross-stitch. The stitch glossary is great too.
I was wondering what kind of hobbies or free time activities do sisters here have. So what do u'll like to do in some spare time?

Wassalam

I like embroidery too! I love to cook and flower garden.
I have not yet found any good kits or patterns for ayats. The sites above offer mediocre patterns.

I would like to do a sura with complicated art work- perhaps in the tile designs of one of our beautiful mosques.

Bismillah and salam,

Kathy you really should! I am so sick of seeing these crushed velvet ones up in just about every mosque i been to.

A nice idea to decorate the mosque i did it here in the mosque library, is if you have an old calligraphy calendar with different ayat and dikr then you cut it nice and take it to kinko or any place that does the illuminating and then you put it up.

Well,I was lot interested in arts and crafts but now adays I am just kinda lazy :) i learnt embroidery when i was in like 8th grade Alhamdulillah and made myself a few dresses since. I really want to to do somehting for my mom, though. Also,I tried learning crochet and knitting and I am still in the initial stages though. I knitted a scarf or muffler for my bro for winter(the one u wrap around ur face and neck, if someone's wonderin what it is).
Then i learnt how to make ceramic flowers. They are SOO cool!!u knead this dough and roll it ;then cut shapes with cutters and put the, on wires and stuff. Also, stockings-flowes look GREAT!!!Pity, they dont sell all these materials in the state. Atleast,I never heard of this. So, if anyone knows where to buy ceramic flour and glue or stocking, PLZ lemme know !!
My mom made this kinda miniature tree, whose trunk is madde of golden wires. On the tree, the fruit is white pearls( costume ofcourse!!) and the leaves are also golden. It looks GORGEOUS!!!!
I got plenty of ideas and I dont want to write a whole article on it :D. So,if u need any more ideas, just send me a msg or email :)
 See ya all.

wow :o thank goodness there are other sisters who love cross stitch and embroidery too.

for my mum's birthday i embroidered her a part of the hadith 'paradise is at the feet of your mothers' - i also made a cover for a Qur'an and embroidered a 'bismillah' on it as a gift for my father.

it's such a cool hobby.  at the moment i'm working on a cushion cover (for like the last 3 yrs - uni has been taking up too much time)
