Bismillah and salam,

Insha'Allah we are trying to organize in our mosque a nice activity day for the youth. The uni young men will take the young men and the boys and take them a swimming and fishing for to apply part of the hadeeth on how to raise them.

For the girls, we are hoping to bake some stuff to sell and to make cross stich. I know they will complain the boys having more fun.

Can you think of other stuff that will be better for them? Ofcourse both insha'Allah will include talking about relevant lessons in a fun way. But in terms of activity what else can be good for the girls to know for the future and home that can be more fun?

jazakum Allahu khayran.

First I would like to say that what you are planning for the youth is great.  A way for them to get to know each other, and to participate in different activites.
I think what you have for the girls is great, but if I were them, I too would think the boys were getting the better deal.  Why not meet with the girls, and get a few ideas from them as to what they want to do.
Why can't they go swimming?  Possibly rent the usage of pool, in a hotel, or YWCA, so that the girls can have a pool party, and still have privacy.  Maybe some of them would like to play a particular sport.  Or what about taking a trip to a amusement park?  But, I think the best thing is to meet with them and get their input.

I'd go crazy if I knew the boys were out swimming and fishing and I had to do baking and sewing!

I agree with Shakira, ask them what they want to do. Maybe they'd like to do dancing or singing? Or tatoo each other's hands with henna?

hmm, I suppose it depends on the group size too. If they're all into the same thing or not. Maybe you'd have to have parallel activities running.

oh dear, I think I'm just making things more complicated instead of giving some good practical advice..

Bismillah and salam,

Sister shakira the swimming is out of the questions because we are not even paying for the boys, they are few so they will go to someones house. Do you think the girls would like to go horseback riding? but then they have to pay? Also a lady was telling me strange stuff about why horse back riding is bad for girls?!

haha sister eleanor what do you mean?!! i thought everybody loves cross stitch? LOL i do anyhow, and i love to eat cakes as well haha

The henna idea is good masha'Allah.

My only problem is the girls are so apathetic and seem indifferent until you come up with something then they just are negative.

keep the ideas coming...

why not have a picnic at a park with an awesome trail. you can play sports, go on the trail and eat. also asking them is a good idea. who knows, maybe they'll like baking and cross stiching ;)

I guess your best bet is to meet with them and have them suggest some ideas.
Going to the park for a bar-b-q/picnic sounds good to me.  The amusement part I think is great, and of course they would have to pay their own way.
I don't know what state you live in, but there are always different things going on all the time.  Some even free.

slm,
I also think the deal sounds unfair:(
ne ways u could teach them all sum "womens self diffence" as the girls would b learning something valuale;) or any other sort of defence.
take them all to he beach
or take them fishing
but giv them a break, most girls cook, clean n saw at home to please their mums :)

take care,
w'salaam

There is no way that I would join a youth group for girls where they cross stich and bake!

I like sports too! Self defense classes are good too. Hiking in the park sounds good. Horse back riding is awesome! Bring out the soccer ball and play some soccer! Putting Henna on sounds really fun too.

Bismillah and salam,

LOL a am floored! you guys are too funny :)

So not very many stitch-sisterhoods on the board huh? just me and my abc!

Did you guys know that your brain produces..serentonin (i think what it is called) when your fingers do intricate repetitive work? It is the stuff that makes you calm :) Anyhow, your eyes go if you do it too much way into the wee hours of the morning...always thinking just one more line LOL

Jazakum Allahu khayran for the ideas..now we are doing henna designs insha'Allah and hiking. If you think of anything else let me know please.
