Idhar, Idgham...

I was taught that there are certain rules for reciting the Qur'an (Idhar, Idgham etc.).  I was wondering if we also need to use these rules in du'as and/or the regular arabic language.

Hamza Yusuf said you should, but that's it's not mandatory.  I'll look for his exact quote on it insha Allah and post it ...

Assalaam alaikum,
I am a Qu'ran teacher and have an ijazah in recitation of the Qur'an.
Since it isn't considered a sin to recite the Qur'an without doing the
ith-haar and idghaam rules, I don't see how it would be required of a
du'a.  The Arabs naturally talked with what is now known as tajweed, so
they would have had it their du'a, but that doesn't make it waajib.

Aslamu alaikum

There is a good booklet on Tajweed called "A brief introdution to tajweed" by Umm Muhammad.

I find that interesting, as I can't imagine them talking using ghunnah (sound from the nose) and madth (elongation of the vowel).
