Hair removal!

Salam all

I have a really embarrassing problem and that is that I have hair on my
face which grows in more abundance than your average girl.

I was wondering if any of you could suggest some hair removal ideas
which are 'cheap' and don't leave stubble - like razor or hair removal
cream. I've tried wax but its very messy and painful on the face.

assalamu alaykum sis

from what i have heard, shaving or using hair removal creams is not a good plan... especially on your face so good choice in not using them. i can think of two choices.

1- cheap solution:
use the pre-made waxing strips that you just have to peel and use.

but this is painful a little bit ... but less painful than using the wax that you have to warm up and apply then use a separate cloth strip to remove.

2- expensive solution but suppose to be permanent removal:
electrolysis procedure... actually in the long run it may even save you money not to mention time and energy!!

i know someone who did it on their arms and its really effective.

hope this helps.

Assalamu alaikum,

Anonymous, you should see an endocronologist (sp?), you might have an overproduction of certain hormones causing this excessive hair.

From what I read and heard, bleaching is bad in the long run, because after a while the hair & skin gets even darker.  Plus, I am sure that peroxide has many other side effects on the skin as it is an irritant. Ditto for the depilitory (sp?) cremes.

Good luck insha'Allah.

actually it was not electrolysis... its laser procedure that is suppose to be permanent. i heard their was a difference, but seeing a docter sounds like a good idea.

I second that sis sarah...laser treatment is supposedly permanent or close enough. It may be the best solution under the circumstances with excessive hair, nullifying the need to constantly wax, bleach whatever.
By the way isn't waxing the face painful? Do sisters really do this? I would have thought it damages the skin or leaves a rash :o

I'm outta here.

i dunno where u live but if u have a really good health plan and u get a perscription from ur doctor for electrolysius the health plan may pay for part of it ...

asalaamu alaykum,
ok shaving is not a good idea.  You'll just end up with alot more
coarse hair.  If you can some how afford it, try electrolosis, i've done,
for i was extremely hairy, and i'm not one of those people who has
alittle and complains about it, i mean i couldn't wear white scarves cause it
would just show all those nasty hairs.  but electrolosis works, but yes
expensive.
bleaching is a quick fix which i used to do, but the hair is still
there and i'm not sure about the long term affects.  For the rest of my
body i use a warm role on wax which works well, of course there will be
some pain in almost every way you try, but us hairy people gotta live
with it.  So i would say if you can dish out $30 for this roll on wax kit
which comes with the wax warmer, roll on wax for body and face and
cloth strips.  and then refills are about $7, and if you plan on only using
it for your face then the wax will last awhile.  I think dipilatory
creams are ok, but i think they might make the hair grow back more, but
not sure.  Insha-allah you'll figure out a way :)  any other hair removal
questions?  when you are very hairy you learn good methods of removing
it :)

luv a sister (who used to be really hairy.)

The best wax that I've found out there is the Nair Roll On kind that you warm up in the microwave for about 10 seconds. It comes w/ the cloth strips and some oil to put on afterward to keep your face from getting red. I like it because it's not nearly as messy and you don't have to mess w/ applying it w/ the little wand. Here in the US it's about $6 and w/ one bottle of it you can prolly do both arms. So if you want to do your legs too, you'll need another bottle.

Have you guys heard of the lotion by Jergens that supposedly makes you shave less often?  I've been trying it, and it smells nice and does a good job of moisturizing, but i dunno about it making hair grow back slower.

I did see a procedure on television about getting the hair removed by laser. It is pretty expensive but a permanent fix to your problem. You might have to get it done a couple times though because hair grows at different rates so the first time through might have only gotten some of it.  But definitely go see a doctor first, they might have some other suggestions.

With waxing your body builds up a resistance to the "pain" it does get easier the more you do it.  I like the wax that comes from the body shop (may be a canadian store) it comes in a little pot that you heat on the stove, it removes even the shortest, finest hair and usually I only have to do it now every 8 weeks or something.

Electrolisis is permanent, my mother had her "moustache" done and it has never grown back.  I tried it and it is just to painful to me as I have much more hair and it is thicker than hers.  It took a year or so of treatments to be final.

I would like to know about the jergens, since I have to shave my legs every couple of days or they are just to rough and if it works that would be amazing:)

A.A.

no, we have a bathroom for the girls and one for the boys... that's so we can keep our stuff separate I guess (and yes, we do always tell each other that one gender's bathroom is cleaner lol)

so when I walk in to get a towel or something, I see some products that I never even imagined existed (things for face and make up and what-not)...

anyways, is it like haraam, or lack of hayah for my mom and sister to leave a hair-waxing strip packet out on the counter?!?! asalaamu alaikum. abdullah,.

slm,

This thread reminds me of a story...

Once when I was young, I walked into my parents bathroom and saw this little box that seemed to contain some sort of hair removal aparatus.  And I thought my parents must have been the strangest people in the world, because, all around you hear of people trying to keep their hair, and men worried about baldness etc, and here my parents are removing the hair they have! weirdos!

:)

Take Care,
Nazia

hehehe... :)  Here's a story. guess who is it about? me. this is also a sad story.   :(  *sigh*

when i was young i once took a shower in my parents bathroom. I was shampooing my hair when i noticed a small pink bottle and i thought "oooooh, my mom bought a new shampoo." so i decided to try it. and i started to shampoo my hair for the second time. and i put the shampoo on my palm and then rubbed it on my head and it didn't lather. So i rubbed it in even harder and it still didn’t' lather. So i gave up and thought "well, it has a weird smell anyway. it stinks." and so i washed my hair and a chunk of my hair fell out!! I was horrified!  :( I looked at the bottle and it was for your underarms! I didn't know women had under arm hair. :( my hair on that spot never grew back as thick as it was before. my future poor husband will be shocked to see an almost-bald-spot on the side of my head! I wear my hair in such a way that people don't notice unless they get really close to me.

:(

If we wax above our knees (ie. our thighs), would those hairs grow back coarser?

Some guys say use bleach BUT is there any bleach that matches
some of us darker skinned beauties?

And anon maybe you could wear gloves?
