due to arthrits or osteoporosis. I want to know if somebody from you or
people you know have ever tried the black seed medicines that they sell
at www.sweetsunnah.com. I visited the site and wrote them letter with
many questions but unfortunately did noy get any answer. I do not know
which kind I need to buy and how much to be taken every day and for how
long time and is it possible to be taken together with other drugs
which the doctors had prescribed and is it neccesary to consult the kafir
doctors about this ussue or just to follow the sunnah of our beloved
prophet. And did somebody tried the loss-hair shampoo, is it working?
Please if you have any experience with the black seed sell on

my prayers, pray for me. Wa salam!

Anonymous, I'm sorry to hear about your family member's cancer, inshallah I pray that Allah gives them the strength to get through this difficult time. My family is actually going through this as well, which is why the Black seed has interested me too.  I tried to ask the medical oncologist about it, and he didn't think there was any truth to what black seed can do. He even seemed almost insulted that as I as a medical student would turn my back on "Western" medicine and look to more "Eastern" influences. He suggested I read a textbook about cancer instead of wasting time with herbal remedies. It's unfortunate that a lot of doctors in the West are not willing to be more open minded about medicine. Somehow maybe it makes them look weak if they acknowledge that the herbal remedies work even if they don't know how.

But it is important that you do tell your doctors if you are on any herbal medicines especially if you're going to have surgery. Many of those herbal medicines are fine to use for regular use, but can cause bleeding that is hard to control during surgery.

My dad actually found the Black seed at an Arab foodstore where we get our halal meat from, so I'm sure it will be much cheaper than trying to find it online. Although I'm not sure how much to use? Does anyone else know amounts?

What science says today, it will recant later with further new discoveries, but what Allah Almighty and His Prophet [saw] say is eternally true. It is our beloved Prophet [saw] who said that there is, in black seed, cure for all illnesses except death. Why don't you, as a medical student, do some research on your own on this subject, and disprove your doctor who seems to have mocked at you? Unlike other scientists who start with theories, you start with an absolute truth - a truth uttered by no less a person than our beloved Propthet [saw] who always spoke the truth, whether before or after his Prophethood.

Man! that's really shocking. Brain tumour treated by black seeds? I never read it in medicine.

Please forgive me for the omission.

Here is the source. This is from Bukhari, under Medicine.

Volume 7, Book 71, Number 591:

Narrated Khalid bin Sad:

We went out and Ghalib bin Abjar was accompanying us. He fell ill on the way and when we arrived at Medina he was still sick. Ibn Abi 'Atiq came to visit him and said to us, "Treat him with black cumin. Take five or seven seeds and crush them (mix the powder with oil) and drop the resulting mixture into both nostrils, for 'Aisha has narrated to me that she heard the Prophet saying, 'This black cumin is healing for all diseases except As-Sam.' Aisha said, 'What is As-Sam?' He said, 'Death."

Please note: Black Seed is also known as Black Cumin, Black Caraway.
What plant does the black seed come from?
Tiny and hairy, being no more than 3mm in length, black seed originates from the common fennel flower plant (Nigella sativa) of the buttercup (Ranunculaceae) family.  Nigella sativa is sometimes mistakenly confused with the fennel herb plant (Foeniculum vulgare).

Nigella sativa reproduces with itself and forms a fruit capsule which consists of many white trigonal seeds.  Once the fruit capsule has matured, it opens up and the seeds contained within are exposed to the air, becoming black in color (black seeds).

Nigella sativa and its black seed are known by other names, varying between places.  Some call it black caraway, others call it black cumin (Kalonji), or even coriander seeds.  In English, the Nigella sativa plant is commonly referred to as "Love in a Mist".  Nevertheless, this is Nigella sativa, which has been known and used from ancient times and is also known in Persian as Shonaiz.

Bismillah and salam,

my understanding is under islamic and herbal medicine, black seed needs to be taken/applied in various ways depending on the kind of illness.

I read a book about how to do that. I only remember how to make a balm but very vaguely, and also that if you take one-three raw 7abba (seed) a day it should insha'allah be suffienct to fight depression.

Assalamu alaikum

There is a sister at the University of Massachusetts who has done some research on black seed. Her web site is http://fisher.bio.umb.edu/pages/fatimah/fatimah.htm

If you do a medline search you'll find that there are 48 papers which investigate theraputic effects of Nigella sativa.

Wassalam

P.S. By the way sr Ruqayya, most doctors will redicule anything they don't know anything about as if what they studied in med school is the only truth out there!

I did do some research of my own, by looking up articles on medline and some other medical web sites. I even had them in hand when i went to the doc's office that day, and he looked at them and said that these were only done on animals, not people, so they don't really have any merit, blah blah blah. He didn't take me seriously at all :(

And i agree w/ you Mona, western docs tend to discount anything that hasn't been tested and proved, which is sad because they're prolly missing out on a lot of ways to help their patients.
