Assalamu alaikum,

Has any of you been to Dr. Hashmi's talks or read her books? What was your general impression? She is a PhD from U of Glasgow in Islamic Sciences and apparently she is a very influencial speaker (but I only heard of her recently). She is coming to town next weekend for an all-female lecture on women in Islam and I am debating whether or not I should invite a non-muslim friend to her talk.

Assalamu alaikum,

Jazaki Allah khair sr. Haseeba. I live in the GTA and you are right, Dr. Hashmi is in the Toronto vicinity all of August. However, I don't speak or understand urdu. The event on the weekend will be in English as per the request of the inviting organization (Federation of Muslim Women).  I will be outa of town then and won't be able to go, hence my dilemma.

If you go to more of her talks, I'd appreciate it if you can lemme know.

But make sure to go to the Saturday talk, 6pm at the ICCO, it will be in English for sure. And it is *FREE*.

assalaamu alaikum

I have a number of taped tafseer lessons by Dr.Farhat and i have to say that they are very impressive, alhumdulillah. For pakistani brothers and sisters, if you hear that Dr Farhat is giving an urdu lecture in your locality, i think its a must for you to take your mum to it!

i've heard a lot of good things about this lady.  several people of my extended family, mainly women, have been influenced greatly by her ramadan classes back in karachi.  i've also heard that there are sisters who actually travel from countries abroad to attend her classes in karachi :o

is any of her stuff on the web?  any audio lectures?  writings?  anything???

salam,

I heard a lecture by her today. She felt uncomfortable speaking in english so her student translated for her. It was okay. I'm not sure if a non muslim would really understand or grasp it. But I was told that her lectures in urdu are amazing. Translation is not the same..so much is lacking.

Aslamz,
I was in pak for my summer vacation and I went to a summer camp in Al-huda ( Dr.Farhat's school) AMAZING!!!! There were 2 summer camps , one in urdu and one in English. Dr Farhat came occasionally to the Al-huda in Islamabad and we were mostly taught by her students. I learned so much!! inshaAllah I will go to pakistan for the one year course.
However, Dr.Farhat is also coming to the states and inshaAllah as soon as I find when and where i'll let you guys know.
