Tamil is our mother tongue, but if we use it here, we will be violating Article 8 of the Constitution of Madina :)

Dear Brothers & Sisters

Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmathullahi Wa Barakathuhu !

Jazakallahu Khaira for your warm Welcome. I really appreciated it.

Let me now answer the questioned raised for me. :-)

Dear Anik:
=======
so are u and your dad alike?
Absolutely YEEEEEEEEEES !!! Like Father, like Son. ;=)

Dear se7en:
========
inshaAllah your posts will be as beneficial as those of your golden father
Inshallah, I hope too. Ameen !!!

Dear bhaloo:
=========
So you are the computer expert in the family.
Sssshhhhh.. I think so. By the way, who said that?? :=)

Dear Barr:
=======
Sri Lankan... U speak Tamil? If so... Vanekem (spelling?)
My Dad has already answered your question. I will be violating Article 6 of the Constitution of Madina, if I am to answer it again. :=)
Hmm.. how abt.. what does Atheek mean?
1. Atheek means ancient. Kaabatullah is called Baitul Atheek (Ancient House) in the Holy Quran (22:29 & 22:33)! I have to say I am not ancient yet.

2. Atheek means 'freed'. Atheek-ur-Rahman means the 'freed slave of the Ar-Rahman'.

3. I have heard The Great Abu Bakr Siddiq (RA) was called as 'Atheek' by Our Beloved Prophet (SAL). It was his petname. Or was it his nickname?

Dear zanfaz:
Nalvaravu (means welcome, right ?)
Left. :=) Yes, it means.

Wasalaam !!!

as salaamu 'alaikum wa rahmatullaahi ta'ala wa barakaatuh
Akhi 'Ateeq you are right in your definitions of this name - used in the Qur'aan to mean ancient, but it can also be used to mean liberated/freed - and as you say our leader and prophet Muhammad, upon whom be the peace and blessings of Allaah, had this nickname for Abu Bakr. He used to say... "haadha 'Ateequllaah min an naar" - this is the slave whom Allaah has liberated from the fire.

Subhan Allaah.
