by George Monbiot (404 pages)

This isn't an Islamic book and has nothing to do with religion whatsoever. But i've decided to review it as it touches upon the lives of 99% of the British public.

Reknowned writer George Monbiot who made his name exposing the corruption of foreign governments casts his eye on the relationship between the British government and the corporate lobbies. He shows how the government has seceded power to these huge organisations and the devastating effect that has had on people in both in specific areas of the UK and the public at large. He brings forth case after case of the government appointing men to positions of responsibility where their impartiality in making major decisions has been blurred by private financial interests.

He shows how corporations have seized control over Britain's hopsitals, schools and universities. He shows how companies have come to dominate key ministries, how planning permission is bought and sold, and how big business is taking over the food chain.

This is a must read for anyone interested in British politics.

The book is written well and the only detraction from its style is that in the first two chapters it seems as if Monbiot is trying to copy Robert Fisk in the way that the M. East journalist opens his articles by describing a particular scene. He fails utterly in doing this and alhumdulillah abandons this approach by the start of the third chapter.
