[slm] Hi ladies I am searching for a pattern for a jilbaya. I have looked at all the common pattern companies and could find nothing. I have searched the internet, couldn't find anything. Does anyone have any idea where I can find a pattern so that I can make myself some? shukran [wlm] Ayla |

Online patterns: http://www.total.net/~shazeeda/ I have heard other sisters describe finding Arab style clothing in regular pattern books under 'costumes' - for example, nativity (birth of Jesus) costumes for Christmas parties depict loose, Arab style clothes for Mary. Hope this helps. |

Sorry, Bhaloo, while what you linked to was cute, it's for decorative needlework, not for clothing patterns. I found this under Simplicity, costumes (adult) #8275 Recreate the Christmas Story with costumes for Mary, Joseph, three kings, two shepherds and an angel Sizes: S to XL (34 to 48) http://www.simplicity.com/s2b.htm * Mary's costume is a long, flowing gown. I also think you could take a pattern for a long-sleeved dress or long jacket (the duster coats that are or were popular) and alter it, or combine this with an existing garment. Shazeeda's website has a few very simple garments too (previous link). Simplicity pattern number 9452 is for a long hooded cape (Little Red Riding Hood type), 9453 is kind of a big, poofy riding jacket that is nearly ankle length, and the top part of 9533 looks very loose and flowing. Another link - cultural and ethnic clothing pattern links. You'll like this. http://sewing.about.com/msubcult.htm |

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah If you're an amatuer stitcher (like me :)) then here's a tip: take an old but well fitting suit and open up the stiches at the seams so as to get the cut pieces. Now use these patterns as sort of templates for the cloth u want to cut (just remember to fold in half while cutting !) This works well for salwar suits. Happy sewing :) wassalam |

[slm] Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you. This one is pretty close to the pattern that I used. It is a plus size pattern, so I don't know if it will work for you or not, but they have a great online catelog to browse if you want. Here is the link http://store.sewingtoday.com/cgi-bin/butterick/shop.cgi?s.item.6224=x&TI=10070&pageNum=3&M=&UK=10181103 I hope this works:) [wlm] Ayla |

If you search for "DUSTER" you will get several nice looking outfits of a long jacket with pants, a dress, or a skirt. In fact, I saw many of these recently just flipping through the pattern books in a fabric store. |

Here's a link to free patterns for adults. There are 3 cape patterns - would work nicely as an overgarment: http://sewing.about.com/cs/adultclothing/ |
