livening up the Brits (Telly Talk)

well it's been a while since there was a new post in here! What's the matter? Have you all gone on holidays or what? That shouldn't stop you from posting in the Madinat - there are Internet cafés all over the place you know.

So does anyone know what's going on in Coronation Street? I tried to ring my mother the other night and there was no answer. I thought she wasn't home, but when I got her later she said that the phone had rang during Coronation Street and that's why she didn't answer it! Then she proceeded to tell me that at the moment it was an ad break and there was fifteen minutes more to go, so I was to hang up and she'd call me back when it was finished....

I watched "Kevin's Guide to being a Teenager" on video there yesterday. With Harry Enfield. I think it's really funny, but I think it's the kind of show that you either love or hate. Most people I know hate it.

Have any of you ever seen Trigger Happy TV? Now *that's* funny!! My husband is always wishing he could walk around with a giant mobile phone screaming "HELLO!" and jumping the wits out of people.

Okay, if no one replies to this then I'll get very worried and send the police around to your house to make sure you're okay.

Haven't you heard? The Br *Brit* Khalid's getting married? The excitement's somewhere else now... :)

oooh.. and I just attended a wedding last weekend (No, not Br Khalid's).. and was I overcome with emotions, mashaAllah... they ahd it in the mosque... and coz, we can hear the vows of the groom so clearly, coz they've got the microphone, and we can see everything on TV that's on the wall.. and he said with so much confidence and clarity... "I accept the nikah of *** with the said mahr".. and with those few seconds.. they're married! MashaAllah! Oh, it's so beautiful... I can feel the blood rushing up my head and everything.. and I'm like.. yoohoo, I'm not the one getting married, here *ahem*....
I wonder what Br Khalid's wedding's gonna be like? :)

Yup. I like Dom Jolly's shows. He's crazy... and the phone thing was like old, Eleanor ;) ...

but you know what? everytime, I hear the same tune of whosoever's mobile ring down the streets or anywhere.. I really feel like shouting "HELLO!"

I've no idea abt Coronation St and all those soap operas.. I find them boring and unrealistic (sorry!)

take care :)

This has nothing to do with anything, but what does "Blimey" mean?
What can it be compared to in US terms?

Thanks :)

blimey is like: " Blimey, that's a big building"
translation "Wow! that's a big building"

"blimey! he nearly killed me!"
translation "Man! he nearly killed me!"

"blimey love, you don't have to spend *that* much money"
translation "for goodness sake honey, you don't have to ..."

As you can see, it doesn't have a direct translation. It can also be replaced with "Cripes" from time to time.

(this is an Irish person's opinion...I stand open to correction from the Brits)
