Assalamu Alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh

Please see if anyone is selling this book:

Muhammad - Man & Prophet: A Complete Study of the Life of the Prophet of Islam by Adil Salahi

A brief review of the book from the Publisher:

**A combination of visionary and warrior, the prophet Muhammad initiated one of the most significant religions and cultural developments in human history - the founding of Islam.

Adil Salahi's compelling biography of an extraordinary man gives a comprehensive account of Muhammad's life, from his childhood in the desert to his divine revelation and early preaching. The author sets this against a fascinating historical backdrop, making a careful analysis of events which led to Muhammad's triumphant march into Mecca in AD 630 with 10,000 warriors behind him.

The effects of the Qu'ranic teachings and the fundamentalism sweeping the Arab nations on world politics and culture are far-reaching and profound. Adil Salahi looks at Islam from this wider perspective with both the Muslim and non-Muslim reader in mind. Muslims will add to their understanding of their own faith and non-Muslims will understand the passionate love Muslims have for their Prophet.**

This may be a very good addition to your library.

Assalaamu alaikum wa rahmatullah

My list keeps growing, I haven't thought logistically of how this would be transported back...

The first 8 are those I have yet to get, the rest I have or had and would recommend.

1. Lives of the Prophets (CD Volumes I and II) - Anwar Al-Awlaki
2. Audiobook - Fortification of the Muslim Through Remembrance and Supplication from the Qur'aan and Sunnah (it’s in audio format now, ppl!)
3. Audiobook – 7 Habits of Truly Successful People – Dr. Abu Ameenah Bilal Phillips
4. Ibn Katheer’s 10-volume tafseer set
5. Original Sins: Reflections on the History of Zionism and Israel – Benjamin Beit-Hallahmi
6. Most of Harun Yahya’s books are pretty good, especially if you need to get gifts for people who like pictures in their books.
7. Most of Abu Ameenah Bilal Phillips stuff is also pretty good.
8. Other socio-political books I probably won’t get to for another year by Noam Chomksy, Israel Shahak, Edward Said, etc.
9. A is for Allah – Yusuf Islam (someone has permanently borrowed mine)
10. Children of Heaven – Zain Bhikha nasheeds
11. Islam & the New World Order –Abdullah Hakim Quick video lecture
12. Colors of Islam, etc – Dawud Wharnsby nasheeds
13. Surah Yusuf – Muhammad al-Baraak tarteel
14. Forcing God’s Hand – Grace Halswell (her book on the Judeo-Christian viewpoint on Palestine, how it’s changed over time).
15. The Three Abandoned Prayers (Salaatul-Istikhaara, Tauba, Tasbeeh) - Adnaan Aali 'Uroor
16. Descriptions of Death and the Grave – Dawood Adib’s audio lecture
17. Any recitations by Al-Efaasi, which I think would be hard to find at ISNA.
18. Stories of the Prophets – Ibn Katheer
19. Gender Relations - Abdullah Adhami's audio set
20. Seerah – Muhammad by Martin Lings, Muhammad-Ash-Shifa’ by Qadi 'Iyad, ar-Raheeq ul-Makhtum, etc.
21. Books of fiqh/ahadith – Saheeh Bukhaari, Saheeh Muslim, Fiqh us Sunnah, Riyaadh us Saliheen, Al-Muwatta, an-Nawawi, Reliance of the Traveler, etc.
22. Almost forgot, the audio lectures series by Hamza Yusuf.
23. Etc etc etc

Booths to hit (if they're still around this year):
1) Meccacentric
2) Islamic bookstore
3) Soundvision
4) Washington Report on Middle Eastern Affairs
5) UCLA MSA
6) Al-Ihya
7) Etc etc etc

None of this is in any particular order.
Does anyone know of any good books on 'Isa, alayhis salaam, his sayings and what not?  Jazaaks.

Assalaamu alaikum wa rahmatullah

Nope, just years of accumulation (and knowing the right people helps).   And more years of accumulation needed, insha’Allah  (so any and all used books, etc can be donated to…jk).  I’m sure many of you have more prolific libraries!

Now, bro, where’s our next Qur’aan memorization task? You obviously have time to post!

Actually, give us until after ISNA.  jAk.

wlm,

wow good tips sophia.. i have some to add to that but so much stuff to do before we go.. inshallah i'll post up what i bought and found cool and stuff.. btw kashif..we're not all rich but isna is usually when we stock up for the year! we all don't live in london or have access to islamic bookstores.. and i'm not into buying from catalogs cause the book is never what i thought it was.. which i guess goes for books (never judge a book by it's cover and all that ;))but it's fun to actually leaf thru the books and find what u like...so i now have a budget to work with, inshallah i'll stay within..and if not i guess that's a few bloody less trips to mcdonalds this year eh!

yes...the aforementioned message was designed to be inclusive to brits and canucks

assalamu alaikum

Sis Sofia - that's a nifty list, jazaki Allah khair for posting it here. It gave me lots of ideas. Actually most of the book I recently got I heard about first from this web site. A collective Jazakum Allahu Khair to all the wonderful generous sisters (and brothers) who post reviews and recommmedations.

I am also planning on a major book shopping spree at the ISNA insha'Allah. This will be my 1st ever US ISNA convention to go to ( i'm kinda scared of being around so many people, cuz slightly clustrophobic and get dizzy in overly crowded areas).

This is sorta the wrong place to inquire- does anyone know about the cost of on-site registration? We'll be leaving Friday morning and arriving at night as my bro and I are taking the scenic route to rosemont (i.e. driving), so we'll miss the friday lectures and registration stampede (is it really crazy there?)

Wassalam

P.S. On behalf of fellow canucks, thanks you sis Jannah!
ps what did y'all buy and see??
Some of the stuff I bought:

- Ihyaa Ulum Al-Deen Vol. 1-4, by Imam Ghazali.  Translated by Maulana Fazlul Kareem (needs to be read with care, some stuff needs to be taken with a grain of salt).

- Priorities of the Islamic Movement in the Coming Phase, by Yusuf al-Qaradawi.

- Selections from the Fath al-Baari, by Ibn Hajar al-Asqalaani.  Translated by Abdal Hakim Murad.

- Knowledge and Wisdom, by Haddad.

- Sunshine, Dust and the Messenger (English nasheed tape), by Dawud Wharnsby.

- Road to Madinah (another English nasheed tape), by Dawud Wharnsby.

- MYNA Raps 5

- Al-Taalib magazines (picked up a few copies at the UCLA-MSA booth).

Some neat stuff I saw:

- muslimbasketball.com!  They had a booth there, and seems like they're doing some interesting stuff.  Check out their web site.  They also had a couple of awesome t-shirts.

- Moroccon thoubs!  Man, those look nice ... the ones with the hood that comes over your head.  They were expensive though ($50), and looked like winter material.  But very elegant.

- Concordance of the Qur'an ... seems to be pretty comprehensive, and the only work of its kind in English.  But it was very expensive.  I'm gonna try to coerce my Masjid library to obtain one :)

People I saw at the bazaar:

- Zakir Naik
- Ahmad Sakr
- Anwar 'Awlaqi (it's ayn and qaaf ... 'awlaqi, not kaaf)
- Murad Hoffman
- MYNA Raps crew singing at the Astrolabe stage ("I don't need to get high" )
- Br. Mustaqeem singing at the Astrolabe stage

Can't remember anything else ... if I do, I'll add it insha Allah.

I saw Concordance of the Quran and thought it was interesting. Good reference definitely. But you reminded me of something else that I found cool. It was a book called a Thematic Overview? of the Quran by Muhammad al Ghazali. It looked amazing!! It was like a summary/analysis of every surah in the Quran in very nice style. Unfortunately at that point I was pretty broke and the price tag was 30+ bucks :(
