How did other Prophets pray?

Are there any historical narratives about how the previous Prophets - Isa, Ibrahim, Moses etc - prayed? I mean, what did they recite and what actions(ie sajdah, ruku etc) did it involve? I once read Prophet Isa used to make sajdah during his prayers.

As salaamu alaikum

They prayed the same way.

Rasulullah (SAW) led all of the previous Prophets of Allah in salaat in Bayt ul Maqdis before Al Israa' wal-Miraaj. Also, when 'Isa ibn Maryam (AS) descends, he will pray behind the Mahdi.

The Angels pray as well. Some of them stand in rows and never get tired or sit down, others who bow or prostrate and never raise their heads.

Abu Dharr, may Allah be pleased with him, said: "The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: ‘I see what you do not see and hear what you do not hear. The heaven makes a noise like groaning, and it has the right to (or it is no surprise), for there is no space in it the width of four fingers, but there is an angel there, placing his forehead in sujood (prostration) to Allaah. By Allah, if you knew what I know, you would laugh little and weep much, you would not enjoy your relationships with women and you would go out in the street praying to Allah.’" (Sunan al-Tirmidhi, no. 2312)

The Angels also visit Bayt al-Ma'moor, the Much Frequented House. Everyday 70,000 angels visit it and leave, never returning to it again, and another group comes after them. (Bukhari)

I'm back :)

Mathew 26:39 -- "And he (Jesus) went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed.."

Joshua 5:14 -- "And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship.."

1 Kings 18:42 -- "(Elijah) cast himself down upon the earth.."

Numbers 20:6 -- "And they (Moses and Aaron) fell upon their faces.."

Genesis 17:3 -- "And Abraham fell on his face.."

I know that the above verses are sometimes used to argue that even in the christian tradition it's known that the prophets performed sajdah.  wAllahu 'alam.

these I took from some notes from a class on daawa and comparative religion.  I *definitely* recommend that everyone take a class like that (which they offer at the alim program), especially if you're active in daawa activity, just to get some basic knowledge of the foundations of other religions and ways to effectively argue/discuss with their ppl.

I remember some time after the class I was in a chatroom.. and this brother (his nick was "tuna sandwich" or something :)) and I *tore apart* these missionaries that were spreading their nonsense and confusing a lot of Muslims.. it was awesome :)

But of course that's not the reason you should study this stuff.. it's just an added side benefit ;)

take care y'all

wasalaamu alaykum.

ps -- by "tore apart" I mean tore apart their arguments.. not the actual missionaries themselves.  just in case there was any confusion. :)

And brother tuna.. where you at???  If you're reading this, email me inshaAllah..
