[slm] Note how alcohol consumption was tolerated under the leadership of that fasiq (sinful renegade) Ahmed Shah Massood. May Allah help the Taliban to bring about the full sharia in Afghanistan even more and help them to keep Ahmed Shah Massood and his pro-western-decadence cronies out of power forever. And the true believers in tawheed said Ameen! ---------------- Taliban smash hundreds of bottles of alcohol in Afghanistan The Associated Press http://abcnews.go.com/wire/World/ap20010828_1125.html KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) Taliban soldiers smashed hundreds of bottles of alcohol that had survived years of radical Islamic rule hidden behind a false wall in the basement of the capital's only major hotel. Turbaned troops pushed each other to get at the estimated 500 bottles of bottles of vodka, wine and whiskey on Tuesday, each wanting to throw a bottle on the rocks behind the hotel. "This is against Islam," said the troops with the Taliban's religious police, which enforces its strict Islamic edicts. The inventory of bottles had been hidden in the basement of the hotel in 1992, when the pro-Moscow regime was overthrown by Islamic insurgents led by ousted defense chief Ahmed Shah Massood. The Islamic groups banned alcohol, but they apparently did not find the hidden storeroom. When the Taliban took control of Kabul in 1996, they demolished any alcohol they found, banned most forms of entertainment, set fire to movie theaters and strung cassette tapes from poles throughout the city. Hotel managers, who didn't want to identify themselves by name, earlier said that a false wall had been constructed to fool Islamic groups and protect the alcohol. Some of the wine was up to 30 years old, they said. It was not clear how the bottles were discovered. The Taliban now rule about 95 percent of Afghanistan, where they have imposed their brand of Islam, a literal interpretation of the Islamic holy book, the Quran. |

assalaamu alaikum Of course its disturbing, and you can bet that they are against a literal approach to the Qur'an because waiting in the wings they have their own (Orientalist) scholars waiting to give their own tafaseer and explanations of the Quran and sunnah. I recall a conference being held in DC a few years ago entitled "Reformulating Islam for the 21st century" where abically they were going to teach us what the correct explanation of the Qur'an's verses were, and which hadith were sahih, and which weren't. You know this reminds me of an incident with my manager in my previous job. We were having an informal chat one afteroon and he asked me why i couldn't come to the pub and just have an orange juice instead of alcohol. That way, at least i could mix in with everybody. So i told him that in Islam a Muslim is not only prohibited from drinking alcohol, but is also forbidden from sitting at a table where alcohol is being drunk. There was a pause and then my manager asks me "so Kash, what sect do you follow then?" The true practice of Islam has become so blurred by its non-adherence to by 'Muslims' that the kuffaar feelt hat pure Islam is some kind of extemist sect or cult. Kashif Wa Salaam |
