From an old thread, someone asked, how did you feel when you past the big 4-0?

I think it was Serena who asked, a while back, how did you feel when you past the big 4-0? Nobody much answered her, like, well, we're all 26, right? I was curious, myself, how the answers would run--there were surprisingly few entries.  Arsalan, Kashif, Br Khalid, Arshad, Jannah..no..no..not Jannah--she is definitly a youngster! ;) But the rest of you--how did you feel? I'll start.  Well, I realized I have a LOT of grey hair :o-- and time seems to be speeding up--the day's fly by--while at the same time I am slowing down!  I don't bother near as much with introspection and analysis. I mean to say, I don't spend as much time any more on life evaluation, or reflection.  I'm too busy--just being myself. But I do percieve some differences...like, there isn't any sense of a driving forse behind--there is a greater sense that it's just time to "stop and smell the roses".  It's really a wonderful sensation of letting go of many worries...the air smells sweet and woody, the nightimes seem mysterious and magical...as it say's on the radio, "wow--I feel just like a butterfly, flitting from flower to flower on gossemer wings!"  j/k. Er. 40 is great.  How 'bout the rest of you--um--old timers? Did you recognize a change? :) Patti

Well, Kathy, you're still a bit younger, have you given it any thought?

Arsalan, Kashif, Br Khalid, Arshad, are "not" 40?!  Oh, well, then they are just mature for their age? Are you lot. like, an awful lot younger then?  Out of high school?  In college? Clue me in!

Today I turned 42.

In my past it was a day to celebrate my birthday.

Al humdullillah, by trying to teach my son the correct Islamic way of life, we are no longer celebrating birthdays.

Still it is a day of reflection of the past years and future years, Insha Allah. A day that will turn into weeks and years.

In many ways I still feel so young in heart- yet the body hasn't realized that it can no longer move as it did in my teens. I have begun to notice many changes in my body and it is amuzing reminders of my parents and grandparents.

For the first time I began to wonder what my mother looked like at 42.
She died at 42 also, when I was a teen. The thought pauses me to reflect more on my deen than my appearance.

At 42 you think that you are to young yet to die- but in my experiance- it happens. I was in Maryland this month and a Sister of 41 died.

I guess I have been thinking about my life more- the mistakes, the progress and the hope of Allah swt's Mercy is ever front on my mind.

The stupid "what ifs" are a passing thought and not so important any more.

Making lemonade out of lemons seem more important. Being greatful and learing more about tauheed seem increasingly important.

May Allah swt let me live as long as it is good for me to live and let me die when it is good for me to die.
