Salaam to all that read my words. I was a Muslim from the age of 7-14. I became Christian at 25 and then recently converted back to Islam six months ago. Being African-American there are challenges within our community to embrace the Islamic faith. Majority of my family members are Christian and do not know of my conversion. I am planning on wearing hijab and raising my children as Muslims but fear the backlash from others. Any words of advice will be deeply appreciated |

Assalamu alaikum sis, Al hamdu lillah for your reversion to Islam. May Allah help you stay strong. The only advice I can give is to go easy on yourself, and take things one at a time, whenever you're ready to. Allah does not burden a soul with more than it can handle. Insha Allah since the community you live in is mostly Christian, maybe you could try to look for a mosque nearby where you could make new friends, and where people could help you. In any case, don't worry about what the people around you say, insha Allah you'll see that it really doesn't matter in the bigger picture. I hope things work out for you, but don't get discouraged if the beginning's harder than you expected. Verily after hardship there is ease. Take care, Mariam |
