Allowed or not?

or

How about a whistle to call out for a person [not a cat call], but when your child is far away and you are trying to get his attention?

and

does it make a difference regarding men & women?

Assalaamu-Alaikum, i cannot think why whistling would be haraam, as long as you aint whistling a tune or anything.

Whistling to get you childs attention, as far as i know, is allowed in islaam. I've not come across anything which suggests otherwise, but then i'm not really an expert, so i'm not sure how reliable what i've said is!

Bismillah and salam,

I was always told that ilshay6an like the whisteling and they do it. But here is a fatwa from islam online anssered by Sheikh Abdel Khaliq Hasan Ash-Shareef

Q:What is the Islamic ruling regarding whistling? I have heard that it is an act of Satan. Could you please highlight any hadith relating to the subject?

A:In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.

There is no evidence to forbid whistling. It is a matter which should be judged according to custom (`Urf). While whistling may not be accepted by some people such as jurists, scholars, and Imams, it may be accepted between laymen. So the matter is decided by `Urf and according to the social customs as well as the religious rank of people.

However, if whistling is used as a means to attract or annoy women (like wolf whistling) then it is Haraam.

As for the Hadith you mentioned in the questions, I do not remember a Hadith of this wording.

Allah Almighty knows best.

Thanks for the posting! I really got yelled at- when my son walked in the room whistling.

The Sister said that it called the Jinn.

I felt bad- because I just intoduced the 60's Andy Taylor/Mayberry show to my son and we have been whistling the tune- which has no words.

Do you happen to have the link?
