Jack Kelley of USA Today wrote a cover story called "Vigilantes take up arms, vow to expel 'Muslim filth'" In it, he describes Israeli extermists and terrorists and their effect on the turbulent situation. It was the first time in a long time a cover story has been objective in its portrayal. Unfortunately, Mr. Kelley received over 300 emails condemning his story, from Jews all around the world. He only received 5 positive emails, one from a CAIR member. The CAIR member received a phone call from a distraught Mr.Kelley telling of the overwhelming Jewish criticism. PLEASE DO THE FOLLOWING: Email USA Today and Jack Kelley thanking them for their objective insight into the matter. They can be reached at: jkelley@usatoday.com editor@usatoday.com The article can be found at: http://www.usatoday.com/usatonline/20010904/3599125s.htm May Allah bless your efforts, inshallah |

AA I just sent an e-mail (see below), it just takes two minutes. Sirs, I would like to take this opportunity for thank you for the cover story in USA Today regarding vigilantism in the West Bank. It is very rare in this day and age to see an unbiased and objective analysis of the very complex, and very sad, situation in the Middle East. I hope to continue to see such articles by Jack Kelley. |

From : "Arsalan Iftikhar" <atiftikh@wulaw.wustl.edu> Subject : Please help me Date : Wed, 5 Sep 2001 15:50:27 -0500 Assalamu alaikum- I won't take much time. Yesterday's cover story in USA Today talked about "Israeli Vigilantes" and showed the terrorists from the Israeli side. Article was written by Jack Kelley. I wrote a letter, and Jack called me today to ask about publishing my letter on Friday. He told me he was bombarded with HUNDREDS of emails from Jews all around the world outraged at him for writing that article. How many positive Muslim replies? Five. Mine included. I implore you, please email Jack and USA Today thanking them for objectively reporting on the situation. If we don't, journalists might be scared off from writing the truth. The two email addresses are: (It will take two seconds, there is no excuse not to) jkelley@usatoday.com editor@usatoday.com May Allah bless you all, In peace, Arsalan |

I just sent the following email a moment ago: ------------- AsalamAlay.com, Peace and e-Greetings be upon The Editors of USA Today and Jack Kelley. I just surfed across the following cover story by Mr Kelley: http://www.usatoday.com/usatonline/20010904/3599125s.htm I fully appreciate the frankness and courage displayed by your editorial decision to place that story on the front page of your newspaper. It is, if one reads to the end of the article, a necessary itemized listing of facts that the peace process has continued to be destablized by a minority of individual settlers. I was shocked to learn Israeli soldiers saying, 'Israeli policeman Shahar Mahsomi, 25. He suffered a concussion in March after a settler struck him on the head with a rock...."I never thought I'd be fighting Jews,"' I must also commend your editorial decision NOT to use the word 'Apartheid' in this paragraph: 'Israel put 30,000 Palestinians, whose homes surround the settlement, under a 24-hour curfew. It prohibits them from leaving their homes, even to go to a doctor or attend school, and jails them if they do. Twice a week, the curfew is lifted for a few hours to allow the residents to shop. The rest of the time, they are in their homes.' Instead, you leave it up to your readers to decide for themselves the appropriate term for this...well, Apartheid. I have not bought a copy of USA TODAY in years, But This has now changed. I look forward to future front page articles of the distinct calibre of Mr Kelley's work.
