| slm,:-) Ok i know u lot may think this is pretty dumb, but here goes!:o I just stared college about 4 days ago and each time i go and sit in the college canteen (not just the canteen, but ne where in college!), i usually get intoduced to another male, or a male comes upto me introducing himself, anyways they usually put their hands out at me to shake, (when i c them coming up i usually get up, tell my friends i need to do something and i go away!) how am I suppose to tell them I don't wanna shake hands??? I used to tell them to go away but i knew the peaple so it was easy and now it seems to be gettin real hard in college coz i don't even know the people that come upto me (plus, males in school used to stay away from me coz of my body guard;)) It seems rude when i stand up and walk away, i cant say go away to some of them as they r friends of my friends (i've just started college so non of my old friends r their:( ok i know u must be thinking its easy to avoid them, but how??? ne help would be appreciated! ja'zak allah:) take care, w'salaam |

| As salamu alaykum Lisha, Just tell them that you can't shake hands. If you feel comfortable saying "no" it is not that hard. Before I started telling men that I can't shake their hands I thought that it would be difficult and embarrassing, but most men understand and don't show any hard feelings. Its probably coz their so used to the girls not mindin):( but i think i'll just walk off now, wheather they like it or not;) and insh'allah they will understand 1 day:) and insh'allah i'll enjoy skool (like u said sis;));):):) |

| As salamu alaykum Lisha, Now more than ever you have to be honest and explain to people why you don't shake hands. If you walk away you will leave a bad taste in their mouths and allow them to further misunderstand Islam. You also have to look at it as paving the way for other Muslim sisters that follow you in life. Insha'Allah Allah (swt) will give us both the strength that we need to hold fast to our religion.
