I know this has been discussed before, having a real time chat facility on the Madina, and it was turned down because it might encourage prohibited relations between brothers and sisters. But don't you think we could have seperate rooms for brothers and sisters. You could have a password to get in to them and you could email the sisters' password to the sisters and the brothers to the brothers. Then our intentions are pure and if someone tries to cheat the system then it's between him and Allah.
Only members could be allowed access, and members who are trustworthy, not ones who just signed up and never posted. Something like after 50 posts you get access to the chat?

Whadya think? I think it would be soooo cool. Right now for instance there's loads of members logged on but no way to chat with them. Only IM and they mightned even see that till tomorrow...

Real time chat in a mixed environment can easily get out of hand, and is not productive at all (I used to administer a major Islamic channel).  Allhumdullilah we don't have that here.

I agree with you without any reservation, Arshad. Alhamdu Lillah.

slm,

I think sometimes real time is very useful. Like when you really need to get in contact with someone immediately and even email is too late for you. But since we have so many avenues like AOL IM and MSN which are much better programs than anything web based could be I think we're OK.

Besides I know for a fact I'd be addicted and on it all day ;)

As salamu alaykum,

I would love it if we had real time chats.  Since I live in New Hampshire, where there aren't too many Muslims, it would be nice to be able to talk with other Muslim sisters insha'Allah.  I don't think that it should matter how many posts one has sent, since it is quality not quantity that counts.

As salamu alaykum
