Advice for Muslims about the Terrorist attack

as-salaamu `alaykum,

Brothers listen to me. DO NOT leave your houses without necessity (or
probably even for necessity). DO NOT ALLOW YOUR WOMEN TO LEAVE THEIR HOUSES WITH OR WITHOUT NECESSITY. I've been through this situation before and be warned, especially in the South of the United States. Take this seriously as an attack of this magnitude has never been conducted on U.S. soil, and when an angry and ignorant American sees you with your beard, or worse your wife with her hijaab, logic is the one thing that will not be in his mind. I can NOT emphasize more that for the next couple of days your women should NOT leave their houses.

DO NOT speak to the media or speak of the incident to anyone in general, even Muslims. It will be the hot gossip in the Masaajid and Muslim circles but DO NOT join in. Most of these are attempts at Muslim FBI informants trying to find ANYTHING on ANYONE to pin blame on them.

Most of all, just use common sense.

May Allah protect us from any and all enemies. Ameen.

was-salaamu `alaykum,

Asalaamu Alaikum

If the reaction of my work colleagues over here in the UK is anything to go by, then I would say that was some good advice.

Usually my colleagues are fairly laid back sort of people but the shock and the hurt they've felt is untrue and to think there not even in the States!!

As with Oklahoma the need to find a scapegoat quick is going to be immense and the repurcussions thereof for ordinary day to day Muslims could be very unpleasant.

May Allah protect us all

CAIR ACTION ALERT #308

MUSLIMS ASKED TO OFFER HELP FOR VICTIMS OF TERRORIST ATTACKS

(WASHINGTON, DC - 9/11/2001) - CAIR is calling on Muslims nationwide to
offer whatever assistance they can to help the victims of today's
terrorist
attacks in New York and Washington, D.C.

Muslims in local communities should take the following IMMEDIATE
ACTIONS:

* Muslim medical professionals are asked to go to the scenes of the
attacks
to offer aid and comfort to the victims.
* Muslim relief agencies should contact their counterparts to offer
support
in the recovery efforts.
* Individual Muslims should donate blood by contacting the local office
of
the Red Cross. (Call 1-800-GIVE-LIFE.) They should also send donations
to
those relief agencies that are on the scene of the attacks.

CAIR also asks community members to 1) REPORT INCIDENTS of anti-Muslim
harassment or attacks (Report to the police and then to CAIR. See
attached
"Incident Report Form.") and 2) ISSUE LOCAL STATEMENTS TO THE MEDIA
(see
below) condemning the attacks and offering condolences for the victims.
It
is also suggested that steps be taken to increase security around
mosques
and Islamic centers.

(In the first few days following the 1995 attack on the Murrah Federal
Building in Oklahoma, Muslims reported more than 200 incidents of
harassment, threats and actual violence. CAIR has already received
reports
of verbal harassment against Muslim women who wear head scarves.)
Security
precautions suggested by CAIR include:

* Those who wear Islamic attire should consider staying out of public
areas
for the immediate future.
* Request additional police patrols in the vicinity of mosques.
* Post mosque members at entrances and parking areas during prayer
times.
* Report suspicious packages to police.
* Document descriptions of suspicious people or vehicles.

SAMPLE PRESS STATEMENT: (Fill in appropriate information in bracketed
items
and send to local TV assignment editors, newspapers city editors, radio
news directors, and wire service bureau news editors. Call local media
outlets to obtain contact information.)

                        U.S. MUSLIMS CONDEMN TERRORIST ATTACKS

([CITY, STATE]- 9/11/2001) - Muslims in [CITY] today condemned the
apparent
terrorist attacks in New York and Washington and offered condolences to
the
families of those who were killed or injured.

In a statement, local Muslim representatives said:

"We condemn in the strongest terms possible what are apparently vicious
and
cowardly acts of terrorism against innocent civilians. We join with all
Americans in calling for the swift apprehension and punishment of the
perpetrators. No cause could ever be assisted by such immoral acts.

"All members of the Muslim community are asked to offer whatever help
they
can to the victims and their families. Muslim medical professionals
should
go to the scenes of the attacks to offer aid and comfort to the
victims.
Muslim relief agencies should contact their counterparts to offer
support
in the recovery efforts. Individual Muslims should donate blood by
contacting the local office of the Red Cross. They should also send
donations to those relief agencies that are on the scene of the
attacks.

"We further call on media professionals to exercise restraint and not
draw
premature conclusions as to who was responsible for the apparent
attacks."

Other tips to deal with the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks

Apart from the possible media attacks on Muslims, there could very well be harassment and violence on the part of some Americans. Regardless of how much we may explain, the bottom line is, Muslims will have to bear the brunt of the emotions that run high when such tragic incidents happen, even if they are innocent. With this in mind, we would like to suggest all Muslim individuals, families and institutions consider implementing the following tips:

1. Make Dua (supplication to Allah)

There is no power or ability except with Allah. He is our Protector and He is in control. Make Dua that everything works out in the best way with this situation and that Muslims are vindicated.

2. Protect yourself and your family

If you are a visible Muslim (i.e. have a beard, wear Hijab, etc.) be careful. If possible, avoid going out too often except when necessary. Travel in groups as much as possible to avoid being alone and thus possibly the target of angry gangs.
In addition, make sure to lock all doors to your home at all times and avoid sitting or sleeping near windows of the house (individuals may try to throw things through them).

If you have children be careful when dropping them off to school and for the next few days, try to avoid letting them play outside.

3. Protect Masjids, Islamic centers and Islamic schools

These three institutions are a favorite target of those who harass and intimidate. All of these institutions' administrators should arrange for extra security measures and try to get police protection for the next week at least.

4. Have a family meeting about this

In your home, hold a family meeting about this issue. Everyone should be included, even small children. Discuss what has happened, the Islamic position on it, as well as what measures everyone can and must take to protect themselves in the coming weeks.

Also discuss how to deal with the topic if it comes up at work or school. Remind children to inform you if their teachers or classmates harass them about the incident. In addition, discuss positive strategies you can take as a family to maintain good relations with your neighbors at this time.

5. Record incidents of harassment

If you are harassed at work, school or in a business, write everything down. Note down the date, time and place, as well as what was said or done that constituted harassment.

After this, contact organizations like the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) in Washington, DC so that they can do a more thorough investigation and include it in their yearly report on Muslim civil rights in America next year.

Also, contact the manager or head of the company and lodge a formal complaint about the incident.

The above precautions bring to my mind only one other precedent:

What was going on before the Japanese were put into
          concentration camps.

Assalamu 'Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh

Dear brothers and sisters in USA how was the treatment from other people after the first day of this tradegy? I heard that they had to close some of the mosques.

Praying everything is good for us all.
Hania.
