| FAIR FORUM AGAINST ISLAMOPHOBIA AND RACISM COMMUNITY PRESS RELEASE It is now imperative that the British Muslim community expresses emphatic condemnation for the recent terrorist attacks in New York City and Washington, D.C. We must send out a clear message to the rest of the world that we whole-heartedly disapprove of the wanton destruction of innocent lives. As Muslims we must express compassion, and extend our condolences to the families of the thousands of innocent people killed in yesterdays attacks. What is already apparent from the media coverage of these events is that the West has decided, with out any tangible proof whatsoever, that the Muslims are responsible. There is now a real danger that such overtly biased coverage will result in an upsurge of anti-Muslim sentiment, indeed a number of serious incidents of harassment and violence against Muslims have already been reported to FAIR. These include assaults on Muslims wearing headscarfs, or prayer hats, simply because they are visibly recognisable as Muslim. SECURITY PRECAUTIONS URGED BY FAIR · We urge all Muslims to be vigilant, and exercise extra caution, especially when leaving the house dressed in Islamic attire. · Any suspect packages should be reported to the police immediately. · Request additional police patrols near the vicinity of mosques, if required. · Post mosque members at entrances and parking areas during prayer times. · All incidents of harassment or violence must be recorded; this includes noting down a description of aggressor(s), suspect vehicles. · Any incident should be reported to the police immediately, and also to Muslim organisations such as FAIR.
