[slm] Insha'Allah on behalf of WhyIslam project, NJ MSAs are going to mail the following letter to every faculty member in NJ Universities, Colleges and major social organizations. The MSAs across NJ will play a key role in this regard. Along with the letter there will be brochures explaining Islam. The MSAs will insha'Allah distribute thousand of letters to every faculty member. If any of you want to use the text, feel free to use it. Also if you want us to send these letters to any of your university people, just provide me with the addresses and names. jazaka'Allah Khair [slm] ahmer Sample letter to Media: Dear Sir/Madam, I am writing to you on behalf of the American Islamic community, and request you to give a few minutes of your time in reading this letter. The tragic events that unfolded on Tuesday, September 11 2001, have caused all of us, deep anguish and sorrow. The loss of innocent lives, the destruction of property, and the disruption of countless lives, has been rightly condemned by all people of conscience. America is home to over seven million Muslims. American Muslims stand united with their fellow Americans in condemning this heinous act of senseless violence. One of the major Muslim organizations, The Islamic Circle of North America (www.icna.org), unequivocally condemned this act on the day of the tragedy. The Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), another mainstream Muslim organization issued a condemnation to which all major Islamic organizations in North America are signatories. While it is still unclear as to who are the perpetrators of this evil deed, Muslims in America are increasingly becoming targets of hate crime. For us as American Muslims, the events of September 11 represent a double tragedy. As Americans we are targets of violence by those who have an animus against the United States. As Muslims we are stereotyped, and held responsible for those same acts of violence ! We condemn all those who use violence against innocents, irrespective of their religious affiliation, their place of domicile, and irrespective of whether the violence was perpetrated by an individual or a state. This is the teaching of our faith, for the Qur'an commands us: "O ye who believe! stand out firmly for justice, as witnesses to Allah, even as against yourselves, or your parents, or your kin, and whether it be (against) rich or poor: for Allah can best protect both. Follow not the lusts (of your hearts), lest ye swerve, and if ye distort (justice) or decline to do justice, verily Allah is well-acquainted with all that ye do." [The Glorious Qur'an 4:135] In Islam, the only wars that are permitted are between armies, and they should engage nobly on the battlefield. Even in a state of war, the Prophet of Islam, Muhammed (peace be upon him), expressly forbade killing non-combatants, women, children and old and religious people. Thus, killing and maiming innocent people, can never be reconciled with the teachings of Islam. The people who plotted and committed the heinous crimes of September 11, do not represent any religion. Rather, they represent the worst of humanity, as do the people who continue to commit crimes against humanity in other parts of the world. Muslims stand for peace and justice. We yearn for a system, in which not only America, but the entire world is safe. A world in which millions of children are not choked to death, as a result of cruel sanctions; where tyrants are not installed as dictators to protect anybody's "strategic interests", and where mass murderers are not supplied with more weapons to bolster a sagging defense industry. We yearn for a world that is free from oppression, injustice and the hegemony of one people over another.
