"America Mourns"

sorry if this topic is already being discussed elsewhere..

did anyone see the broadcast from the Yankees Stadium? It was an Interfaith ceremony for the relatives and friends of people killed in the attacks on Sept. 11th.

I thought the Muslim contribution was nice, however I was more than a little shocked to see the Muslimah hug Rudi Giuliani and whoever the guy standing next to him was.

The Qur'an recitation was nice too and I liked the quotes they chose.

Maybe I'm a little naive but I thought it was well carried-out.

Thoughts from some of the more "wise" members?

A lot of the Rabbis made nice speeches and I stoped watching it after a while cuz I didn't think that they were going to bring any other faiths forward, but I was wrong. :) dang, i missed it!

well, Eleanor, can't expect every Muslimah to act like one or even act like one sometimes. :)

but i thought that the speeches by the rabbis, there was one rabbi that made a particularly moving speech.

i think it's strange that different faiths get up there and say that all the dead are in God's Mercy, when not every faith belives that. Most faiths belive that only their followes are in God's Mercy after they die. And Christianity and Judiasim are certainly one of them.

yep i saw it and the person next to juliani was the lanky new york governor George Pataki

the overall event was good for Islam, regardless of what happenned afterwards;).
Just imagine reciting Quranic Ayahs to those thousands of people, and that Azan and recitation was so captivating. Noone could have thought about it happenning this way. Islam comes to people in different ways and it has now! Whatever the media barks!

Like Allah says, "Though you may hate one thing, and Allah has put a lot of good in it" .. "Khaiyran Kaseera"

everything was impressive, except the pundit's speech:o

I didn't see all of it, and in the part i did, i was straining to find sight of a Muslim, but couldn't see one. The part i saw was like one rabbi giving a speech followed by another rabbi followed by another...

Oh well, at least i got to see J.E. Jones. Good to hear the voice of Darth Vader after so long.

Yes it was pretty nice, the Azan and recitation was very nice. Also the muslimah reading the translation was good too,But I was also shocked to see her giving a hug Hmm.. may be a hand shake would have been better .... though that is also not correct....
But overall it was good. I never thought that I would hear azan on the TV!

What will your mourning be when the war starts

Who will you mourn for ?

What do you think the US/UK publics response will be when they see dead soldiers covered in the American flag coming home, when their biography is played on media, and you see their loved ones carrying ?

In particular what do you think the response will be on those Muslims ? Do you think you would be able to wear an ammamah after this ? Will they ever see a practicing muslim in the same light ?

Will it be a Bosnia in the UK or US i.e mass killings of people or will it be like Algeria where religion is restricted and not able to practice fully?

Do you think it will be necessary for hijrah, since we may be contributing indirectly to the war by our taxes ?

I hope to Allah we do not see that day but I feel that it will arrive soon. May Allah protect us. Ameen.

BroHanif, I hope you're not insinuating that we care more about the Americans who died than the Muslims who are suffering and dying all over the world as I write this?

In case you are I'd like to clarify:
I thought the ceremony was wonderful because of the Islamic contribution. It was lovely to hear the Qur'an being recited and translated in front of such a huge audience. It was a very moving speech from the Muslim chaplain of NYPD, or counsellor or whoever he was. Everyone started cheering and applauding at his words and gave him standing ovations.
This is what I found to be brilliant.
There was never a better chance to bring Islam across to so many people at once.

Insha Allah may Allah protect and bless all Muslims who find themselves either victims of terrorism or in a war situation.

SiS Eleanor,

I'm not insinuating that we care moe about Americans than anyone else.

What I said was what happens when the cermony is over, when the dead bodies are coming home ? What will the response then be ? Whos side r we on ? I'm just cautious of what is going to come for the muslims.

Yes listening to the Quran is wonderful, hearing speeches is wonderful, but my dear sister do not forget we all have our nafs. Our nafs sometimes likes to hear what it whats to hear, eats food what it wants to eat.

Yet when truth is sometimes imposed on the nafs it does not like it. There are many verses of the Quran which say this. This is a situation present in the UK, there are many good bayans and speeches saying about Islam, the prophet and the shabas but we are also missing bayans that dicuss those particular verses of the quran which are necessary for our nafs. Why are they not discussed because they impose a great strain on the heart ?

Maybe one day I will talk more about this issue but frankly speaking the only people to have caused this mess is us, the muslims. We have left the deen, gone into deep sinning and because of this, the world now reeps the azaab of Allah.

slm,

Well I think you're talking in a general sense, because in the specific we still as yet do not know who actually committed these acts. And as to why and who reaps the worse punishment in this life, we have yet to see and don't know Allah's wisdom. One scholar did say, this is a trial or a punishment, we don't know which. I hope this is a trial inshallah.

Agreed that Muslims on the whole are very far from Islam. Just look at the statistics of how few come to jumah.. and EID...i was truly stunned...i thought every Muslim came to eid...

We are seriously doing something wrong if the majority of Muslimc don't even come to Eid!!  We need to modernize and change our thinking and be smart about our programs and how to target Muslims...I mean our youth are like sand just draining away...

anyway this is a huge discussion that Muslims should begin. the only hopeful thing to come out of this horrible tragedy and misery is that (hopefully) the US is starting to question it's foreign policy and what it should do differently.

and we must do the same.

Sis
Jannah,
You've hit the nail on the head !.

As muslims this is a wake up call from Allah that we must change our ways. Otherwise....
We need to modernize and change our thinking and be smart about our programs and how to target Muslims...I mean our youth are like sand just draining away...
Out of all the scholars where I live only two managed to say something about this horrible incident. And how many scholars do we have... more than your average county about 50+, its a shame so much knowledge goes to waste.

And as for our youth... I tried to arrange some youth programs for the community but some backward people in the community said no thats too radical. Whats so radical in having keep fit classes, having web lessons, having Islamic excursions, working on sadqah projects etc etc.

We are so behind on deen and current events that the word behind seems modern !.

Sometimes I feel is it worth it, going against the grain. ?
