Muslim students commemorate Palestinian uprising with calls for peace
WHAT: The Muslim Students' Association of the U.S
and Canada (MSA National) is calling on its local
chapters and Muslim student activists throughout
North America to honor the Palestinian uprising> anniversary with calls for peace in the Middle East,
America and throughout the world.
MSA National has declared September 28th a "Friday
for Peace: In Memory of the Fallen but Not Forgotten."
"As our nation struggles to heal and recover from
the most tragic terrorist attack ever, and as the
oppression of the Palestinian people reaches
unprecedented levels, we want to remind ourselves,
our community, our leaders and the world that there
is an alternative", said Altaf Husain, MSA
President. "The alternative is peace and justice, not war and revenge," added Husain.
The activities of the "Friday for Peace" will include prayer vigils, town hall meetings, newspaper
editorials and lectures. The Muslim students will
reach out to members of other faiths and students of
all political affiliations to work together under
the banner of "Peace and Justice, Not Revenge and War".
There are an estimated 7 million Muslims in America
and 1.2 billion worldwide. There are over 500 Muslim
student organizations on campuses in North America.
