from an American girl with a "Muslim" boyfriend:

He isnt introducing me to islam, i introduced myself to islam and to
tell you the honest truth he doesnt like that im interested in it. He lived 23 years as a muslim and when he came to the US 12 years ago he decided that he didnt want to be a "full blown muslim" so now he is just a believer in god with no set religion. He believes in Some of the bible and most, if not all the Qur'an. He thinks im just interested in islam because of him and his culture and that made me sad, cuz im interested in islam for ME and my life. I want to be pure and live for allah everyday but he just thinks im naive and doing it for the wrong reasons. I need allah in my life, i need islam to keep me on the straight path, he doesnt understand that i need this
direction. He told me that he didnt want me on any muslim/islam sites on theinternet or going to any mosques because they will trace me down and question me with all the stuff going on in the US latly.....i told him i will keep myself of the low but i WILL NOT be afriad to embrace islam because of what others will percieve me as or think of me. If someone kills me because im a muslim then i guess it was time because id rather die for allah than anything else. I told him he should never be afriad of who he is. I refused to give in to the AMERICAN culture, where they see muslim as bad, i would be willing to stand by a busy street with a sign saying, YES IM MUSLIM AND PROUD!!

assalaamu alaikum

Alhumdulillah. Whoever Allah guides none can lead astray, and whomever Allah leaves to stray none can guide.

I've heard of a number of cases when a non-Muslim fell in love with a Muslim (who wasn't practising) and then out of her own interest too the shahadah and left the boyfriend.

Asalaamu alaikum,

I know of a story just like this! The guy was a muslim and he was pretty good until his second year at university where he fell to the charms of a female classmate. the guy only prayed once a day, but never completely left his religion.  The girl was really intelligent and without the knowledge of the guy decided to find out about Islam for herself.  At the end of the second year, she told him that she wanted to become a muslim and his reaction was similar to the guy's in the story
He thinks im just interested in islam because of him and his culture
pretty sad really....but she truely believed and kept her fast during the whole of ramadhan.  In third year she started performing all her prayers and even started wearing hijab...her family and friends thought she was nuts, but she didn't mind.  She knew the Truth and held firmly to it.

Unfortunately the guy's family didn't accept her and wouldn't stand for their son marrying a girl out of their culture..so he had to break it off with her.  Alhamdulillah, she met another really good muslim brother and married him soon after.  The guy sees this as part of God's plan...it was meant to be.

And what happened to the guy? He was inspired by her example and began learning more about Islam for himself.  He is now a stronger muslim, praying five times a day and has started following Islam not because of his culture, but for himself. Masha'Allah!

Its funny that we are from different parts of the world and have all these different cultures...it seems to me, as Muslims we should only have one culture- Islam.  Sure its good to have variety, as in the foods and languages...but Islam is a way of life...it should be our primary culture.  We shouldn't say we are indian or pakistani or kiwi or american or whatever....we should say we are Muslim first and foremost.

I'm sure you all understand this and are working to make a difference.  Lets work together to make a difference...I'll start at my end and your start at yours, InshaAllah we'll meet in Paradise.

Salam,

This summer I was introduced, by a friend, to a Japanese woman who's on an exchange program in this city for one year. In the course of our conversation I learned that she met an Iraqi man and is currently going out with him. Her boy friend gives her some dawah (Do you see the irony) and she has expressed some interest in Islam. Insha-Allah one day I hope Allah guides her. However, I am wary of these kind of men. I am kind of worried about her..these Muslim men who date non-Muslim women more often than not turn the women away from Islam. Some times they date them or even marry them and then dump them, just like that, when the woman is with child. And I know of a couple of cases of abusive husbands. It's sad. Any advice on how I should deal with this Japanese woman?
