>Tehran, Sept 27 - Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed
>Ali Khamenei on Wednesday described serious campaign against terrorism as a
>Jihad (holy war) , while saying the statements made by U.S. officials on
>definition of terrorism are wrong and unacceptable.
>Addressing the families of martyrs of the Iraqi-imposed war (1980-1988),
>the Supreme Leader said: "The islamic republic of Iran does not believe
>America has the competence and the sincerity to guide a global movement
>against terrorism and it will not participate in any move which is headed
>by the United States."
>The Supreme Leader pointed to the "arrogant" statements by U.S. officials
>and said that the humiliation the U.S. has suffered (as a result of the
>terrorist attacks on the American cities on September 11) can not serve as
>a reason for such arrogant, angr y statements, adding that the people of
>the world will not bow to such statements.
>The Supreme Leader ruled out the idea (put forward by the U.S.president)
>that those who decline to side with the U.S. are with terrorists as a wrong
>statement, because "today some governments, which are allies of the U.S. ,
>are more dangerous than all the terrorists." Those at the helm of the
>Zionist regime have taken part in the most heinous and brutal terrorist
>attacks and are continuing their actions," the Supreme Leader said.
>"We are not with you, and not with the terrorists either," the Supreme
>Leader declared.
>"In American wrong logic, massacre of the people in Sabra and Shatila (in
>1982) and Qana (in 1999) and the legislation endorsing the assassination of
>the Palestinian Muslims do not amount to terrorism, but the legitimate
>defense of the Palestinian peopl e is called terrorism," noted Ayatollah
>Khamenei. The American officials say there is no good or bad terrorism,
>but, they have practically divided terrorism to good and bad one, the
>Ayatollah continued. "An example of which is the shooting down of an Ira
>nian airliner over the Persian Gulf (in 1988) which caused the loss of
>lives of hundreds of innocent people by the U.S. warship (Vincennes). Its
>commander was awarded instead of meting out punishments against the
>perpetrators and offering apology to Iran ," the Supreme Leader said.
>Ayatollah Khamenei condemned the U.S. media and officials propaganda
>campaign against the Muslims from the early hours of the terror attacks as
>an ugly act with long term repercussions, and asked why the U.S.
>intelligence apparatus immediately accused the Muslims. "If your (U.S.)
>intelligence apparatus is so strong, why could they not neutralize the plot
>which takes several months or even years to plan?" The Supreme Leader
>enquired. Ayatollah Kha menei criticized the U.S. president's statement
>comparing the incidents to "crusade" and said if the remark is not
>deliberate, the question is how a Chief Executive speaks so carelessly.
>"You have embarked on a propaganda campaign against Islam and announced
>names of the Muslim suspects while you do not release the names of the U.S.
>or Western suspects. Then you ask the people not to attack the Muslims,"
>Ayatollah Khamenei said. The Supreme Leader condemned the approach t he
>U.S. officials have taken in the wake of the attacks against U.S. interests
>as bullying and undue expectations and said that such an attitude leads to
>hatred for the U.S. administration as a result of which the U.S. flag is
>burned in different parts o f the world.
>"The Islamic Republic of Iran will not help the U.S. and its allies in any
>attack on afghanistan," The Supreme Leader stressed. "You have always
>struck blows to Iran's interests in the past 23 years . How dare you
>request help in order to attack the Muslim people of afghanistan, which has
>suffered and which is our neighbor ?" Ayatollah Khamenei said. The Supreme
>Leader said that the United States is using the current situation to expand
>its influence on Iran's eastern borders, in the region, the Central Asia
>and the (Indian) Sub-continent.
>The struggle against terrorism should be initiated by the United Nations
>without the influence of the U.S. and other powers, the Supreme Leader
>said, adding Islamic states and the Organization of the Islamic Conference
>shoulder a heavy responsibility for fighting terrorism. The Afghan people
>are no different from other people in the entire world, so they should not
>fall victim on baseless excuses, the Supreme Leader concluded.

That was a brave, bold and courageous statement. Wish other Muslim leaders should have taken the same course, BUT alas!
