Neanderthal  man and Evolution

Assalamu Alaikum Everyone

I was asked whether I believe in Evolution. I said 'no'. Then I was asked the difficult question why I didn't, since according to science, evolution must exist because fossils act as evidence. At this point I had to rush off to the loo which always happens when I can't answer a question :)

Can anyone give me a slick answer regarding the concept of Evoltion and give a good answer why we are not decended from Neanderthal man!!! It totally defies the concept of Adaam and Hawaa.

Thank you.
I curtsy to you all.

Bismillahirrahmannirrahim

Before I begin let me make a disclaimer. I am not smart neither am I an authority in religious matters but the reason I am attempting to provide an answer to your question is because my friend who is not a Muslim yet ( I am hoping he will receive ALlah's hidayah soon )has asked me this before.  So I thought I would share.

When we are asked questions pertaining to our faith, we usually tend to answer by resorting to our doctrines and what we know of it. Unfortunately not all of us are blessed with the knowledge and wisdom that a Mu'alim has so we tend to falter at some points.  This is tricky because then we give the impression that our religion has loopholes whereas we know that there is a an answer to the question. So for most of us, when we are questioned like the above, what we can do is to engage them in a didactic exercise.

Why don't we Muslims believe in evolution since according to science evolution must have taken place as fossils act as evidence ? Well my answer would be, why should we ? Ask them that. Why should we believe that evolution happened because science says so. Tell them that throughout the years there have been numerous cases where it is clear that science is just a process of learning and discovering about life forms and the world we live in. That new discoveries negate old discoveries and in some cases even prove the opposite of previous facts. By virtue of that fact, scientific discovery cannot be determined as conclusive. In addition the evolution theory has some missing links that have yet to be explained.  Plus, how can one say that the fossils act as evidence of evolution ? Fossils just show that there were existence long ago. They just show that those existence were of certain characteristics and forms. BUT the fossils DO NOT provide any evidences of the transition between those existence and the current existence. In the paleontological world, a lot of induction takes place and not deduction. Induction is nit necessarily a good basis for the determination of facts.

After all that have been said where we try to show the frailty of science, we then ask them, in contrast why won't they believe in the Quranic explanation of existence. Ask them if they can find one single contradictory statement in the Quran about existence and life forms, bearing in mind the Quran's existence before the advent of science. If they cannot answer then challenge them this, if you can find one single wrong or false statement in the Quran, then u are willing to debate the issue with him again, But since he cannot answer then the matter will rest there. But ask him to consider this, why would he believe in science when there are many inconsistencies rather than believe in the revelations of the Quran since there is no mistake in it ?

As he or she tries to grapple with that thought, you can safely make your escape Sis Hania, not to the toilet but to the cafeteria and have a good drink of bebzi. Actually the above method is a low brow although acceptable method in philosophy but hey, whatever works heh heh.

Wallahualam bissawab. Please forgive any mistakes and I would be grateful if they are pointed out to me.

Wassalam

Actually if you examine the theory of evolution scientifically it falls apart, a man who does a great job in demonstrating this is Harun Yahya. Check out his books and videos in his excellant website.

asalaamu alaikum,

yeah, Harun Yahyah's book is good... Evolution of Deceit...

One retort I learn was:

If we descend from chimpanzees...

how come there are still chimapnzees?

shouldn't they all be "evolved" now...? how come one extreme (ape) , and the other extreme (human) can co-exists, and yet, no intermediaries exist?

remind people that even evolution is a theory... that has been over-accepted and turned into law...

and for the record, they HAVE NOT found conclusive evidence, merely clues...

in fact, they found "evidnce" of cro-magnon man, then ended up finding a homo sapiens sapiens (HUMAN) footprint that was older than it, so... obviously there's a problem in this research...

But that co-existing one... makes me laugh cause it's so simple...

why the heck didn't they change (the chimps)? afterall, cro-magnon man and chimps BOTH resided in Africa... asalaamu alaikum. abdullah,.

What reply is needed.  Evolution is theory, not fact.  I see
more substance in the verses of the Quran that have scientific support
than in the THEORY of Evolution.  Maybe you should tell them to read
the Quran and then they will know why you believe the word of Allah and
not Evolution.  Then if they still support Evolution, ask them to
disprove Islam the way they asked you to disprove Evolution.  I believe they
will be the ones running to the bathroom.

salam,

I've actually looked into this..the theory of evolution is incredibly weak..it's strange how they teach it as a fact in schools.

I just recently posted something related to this topic. It's a critical review of the PBS evolution series. The thread is in the International House of Kabobs.
