Asalamu Alaikum

I hope this helps Insha'Allah

http://65.193.50.117/index.php?ln=eng&ds=qa&lv=browse&QR=5112&dgn=2

In al-Saheehayn it was reported from Ibn ‘Abbaas that the Messenger of Allaah  (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to say, when he felt distressed:

“La ilaaha ill-Allaah al-‘Azeem ul-Haleem, Laa ilaaha ill-Allaah Rabb il-‘arsh il-‘azeem, Laa ilaaha ill-Allaah Rabb is-samawaati wa Rabb il-ard wa Rabb il-‘arsh il-kareem (there is no god except Allaah, the All-Mighty, the Forbearing; there is no god except Allaah, the Lord of the Mighty Throne; there is no god except Allaah, Lord of the heavens, Lord of the earth and Lord of the noble Throne).”

And it was reported from Anas (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Prophet  (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to say, when something upset him:

“Yaa Hayyu yaa Qayyoom, bi Rahmatika astagheeth (O Ever-Living One, O Everlasting One, by Your mercy I seek help).”

And it was reported that Asmaa’ bint ‘Umays (may Allaah be pleased with her) said: The Messenger of Allaah  (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said to me: “Shall I not teach you some words to say when you feel distressed? ‘Allaah, Allaah, Rabbee laa ushriku bihi shay’an (Allaah, Allaah, my Lord, I do not associate anything with Him).’”

It was reported from ‘Abd-Allaah ibn Mas’ood that the Prophet  (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “No person suffers any anxiety or grief, and says:

‘Allaahumma innee ‘abduka wa ibn ‘abdika wa ibn amatika, naasiyati bi yadika, maadin fiyya hukmuka, ‘adlun fiyya qadaa’uka, as’aluka bi kulli ismin huwa laka sammayta bihi nafsaka aw anzaltahu fi kitaabika aw ‘allamtahu ahadan min khalqika aw ista’tharta bihi fi ‘ilm il-ghaybi ‘andak an taj’ala al-Qur’aana rabee’ qalbi wa noor sadri wa jalaa’a huzni wa dhahaaba hammi (O Allaah, I am Your slave, son of Your slave, son of Your female slave, my forelock is in Your hand, Your command over me is forever executed and Your decree over me is just. I ask You by every Name belonging to You which You named Yourself with, or revealed in Your Book, or You taught to any of Your creation, or You have preserved in the knowledge of the unseen with You, that You make the Qur’aan the life of my heart and the light of my breast, and a departure for my sorrow and a release for my anxiety)’

- but Allaah will take away his sorrow and grief, and give him in their stead joy.”

Assalamu Alaykum,

Jazak Allahu khair Traveller, that was very helpful! May Allah reward you.

Br. Hanif- I can read Arabic alhamdulillah, but I need a translation to understand the meaning. In the duas that you have compiled do you also have the English translation? Even if you don't, it would be very nice and helpful if you can please post them or email them to me insha Allah. I know I can always get a translation from someone.

Assalamu alaykum,

This is my favourite dua'..It's the dua the prophet(saw) said when he went to Taif and the people there rejected him and encouraged their kids to throw rocks at the prophet(saw) to the point where he was bleeding from all over his body.

O Allah, To Thee I complain of my weakness, resourcelessness and humiliation before the people. Thou art the Most Merciful, the Lord of the weak and my Master. To whom wilt thou leave me? To one estranged, bearing ill will, or, an enemy given power over me? If Thou art not angry with me, I care not, for Thy favor is abundant upon me. I seek refuge in the light of Thy countenance by which all darkness is dispelled and every affair of this world and the next is set right, lest Thy anger should descend upon me or Thy displeasure light upon me. I need only thy pleasure and satisfaction for only Thou enablest me to do good and evade the evil. There is no power and no might save in thee.”

If you don't know the whole story you can check it out at:

And even if you do know...it's still good to refresh your understanding of the lessons gained from this experience...I believe it has a direct bearing on the way things are these days, specially for muslims living in non-muslim lands...pay attention to the prophet's answer to the request of the angels.

wa alaykum as salaam wa rahmatAllah,

Oh man.. Amal jazaki Allahu khayran for putting up that dua!  My teacher mentioned it in class a few weeks ago and I've been looking all over for it.  It's one of my favorites now too :)

Except he translated it like this (from what I have written in my notes):

O Allah, it is to You alone I complain about the ineptitude of my strength, the weakness of my plan, and my lack of reverence in the eyes of others.  You are the Most Merciful, the Lord of the destitute, and You are my Lord.  O Dear God, to whom have You entrusted me?  An enemy to whom you have granted authority over me?  Ya Allah, if You are not angry with me, I will bear all of this.  Yet your 'affiyah is what I prefer.  I seek refuge in the Light of Your Divine Face in front of which all darkness are lit, and the cause of rectification of all matters of this world and the hereafter, that I be subject to Your wrath or that You be angry with me.  I shall continue to stand before You, seeking Your forgiveness, until You forgive me and are pleased with me.  And there is no power nor strength save by You.

Does anyone know where I could find it in Arabic?  (Please?)

You can find the Arabic of the du'aa in any book of Seerah (in Arabic!)  Rasulullah [saw] recited it after he was kicked out of Taaif.  You can also listen to the album of Hamza Yusuf (Life of the Prophet) ... he recites the whole thing in there.
